Electrical / Need some help please
« on: April 08, 2012, 10:45:25 PM »
My battery is in the trunk. I do remember seeing those terminal blocks, so I will check them with my multimeter tomorrow.

I also did a quick inspection of the fuse box and so did my friend. We didnt find any blown ones in there.
While the engine was out I was going to replace the blower motor and resistor. While doing it I found that someone had been in there and took out the resistor and tried to hardwire the blower motor... I couldnt come up with any reason to do this... I pulled the blower motor and resistor from a cabrio in a junkyard.

Thanks for the help. It is really appreciated. I hope I can get the car going this week to make it to an autox this sunday.

I bought the car a month or so ago, thinking it had a blown head gasket. Car was driveable though. I bought another m42 so I swapped out my m42 with a cracked head for the supposedly good one. Car is a 1991 318i.

got the engine in, bolted down, and I think I got all of the electrical hooked up minus the cooling system (was wanting to check for function before dumping gallons of water into it. The car will turn on lights and accessories, but the fuel pump will not prime and the car will not turn over.

Im thinking it might be a ground is missing? But I have the ground hooked up from frame to motor mount, from engine to alternator, and the short one on the starter.
Would having the cam and crank position sensor connectors swapped do this?

Where should I check first?

I dont but im sure i can figure it out. ill let you know

excellent. If not, I might be able to to wrap a wire around the throttle body and measure it, then find a diameter of a circle with the same measurement for the circumference.

Dang they have lots of nice stuff.
You wouldn't happen to remember the diameter of the throttle body side of the silicon hose do you?

Thanks for your help

Nice!

The silicon boot for the throttle body. Where did you get it from?

So the JOM coilovers are completely incompatible with Bilstien Sports on the front of the car. The piston of the shock is muuuuch larger than the factory shocks. Now I need to rethink the suspension. I may have a lead on some H&R springs on a friends car. I dont know when he is going to swap them out for something else though. Who else makes good springs for these cars?

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / Stock Header Turbo Build

I've been away for a while.

Don't cut anything! We used a taller engine mount on the pass side and a lower mount on the driver's side to rotate the engine (clockwise looking @ the front) w/o the engine interfering w/ the hood. I will try to find out which mounts we used and post; I think a early 635 mount is taller. The driver's side may possibly be left stock, but I am not certain.

The most important part is making a mount plate for the pass side mount so it prevents stretching the mount. We have not done this yet. My son's car is in Daytona Fl. We will when he comes home for the summer.

There may be slight differences in the e30 and e36 headers, so keep that in mind. Perhaps others can provide pertinent info.

:DThe cutting has already been done. I am working on modifying it into a topmount manifold basically. I already got it to clear the strut tower reinforcement, now I need to make it so I can bolt my turbo to it.

I would still be interested in seeing what mounts you used. It would make routing my downpipe easier.

A friends quote on my local hot rod site:
"BTW, even though you'll have some lag, a low amount of boost on a big GT35R w/ proper tuning will make your ass pucker and put a permanent grin on your face . Trust me...:D"

hahaha! It makes me laugh everytime I read it.:D

Good luck on your build bro!!! I chose stainless due to the others getting heat wrapped combined with moisture and heat cause cracks---be careful what you choose... Sometimes you get what you pay for.;)

Haha I like that quote too!

Trust me, I know you definitely get what you pay for. Your turbo header looks awesome and Im sure it will last forever, but i cant justify spending half of what I paid for the whole car on just a header:D Im in the process of modifying the stock header to work. Its not rusted to hell yet, so im thinking they came in some grade of stainless from BMW?

Have you checked the condition of your motor mounts?

I never even thought about that. I might need some new ones. Ill definitely replace them when I put the new engine in in a few weeks. I have already started cutting up a.d welding the header to work, but maybe it will just give me more room

And trust me, I know you get what you pay for. But since I have access to welders and all kinds of machine tools, I am modifying/making what I can. So I am in the process of converting the factory m42 header to a turbo manifold. We shall see how this turns out.

They are available on EBay for close to $400, and my turbo is a GT35 .68/.70 made for a V8... I may be over doing it or just looking to get the most in the long run...lol!

That should have a very strong top end rush I would think. I have a GT25. Im hoping for instant spool.

That header is real nice, but I am hoping I can do the whole build for that much :o So far im in about 150 with the turbo, intercooler, and piping. Still need a BOV, injectors, finish my header, and connect it to the rest of the exhaust, then tune it.
