Hi, could anyone with a M42 in bits have a look in the top of the block and see if there is parts 9 and 10 in it for me? ive ordered them but when i came to fit them they are the wrong size, and it looks like the one bmw sent would press in were as my block seams to be tapped around M8/M10 i would say.

heres link

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=AF92&mospid=47256&btnr=11_4380&hg=11&fg=10

Any help would be much appreicated, ive check a spare block i have but it has no valve in it.

How-To's / DIY M20 flywheel conversion
« on: August 06, 2010, 02:37:52 PM »
Quote from: e30guydownunder;70201
I also had to put the 323i starter pinion in the M42 starter and to do this i had to shorten the bendix side of the pinion by about 10mm and cut a new circlip groove in...I am unsure if this is a 323i related issue or something to do with all m20 starter motors.

So in summary:

3mm spacer between crank and flywheel
'84 323i Flywheel
'84 323i Starter motor pinion modded to fit in M42 starter
Shorter flywheel bolts
Single Mass m20 Clutch kit including TO bearing.

.

I did the same, didnt take long to turn down and machine the new grove for the circlip thing in the pinion gear and works great now, however i did use the e21 TO bearing:D

i Also didn't use the 3mm spacer behind the flywheel, it seamed to mesh up all alright and didnt catch the block in anyway

Hi, the investors were running just under 80% at the last run. The guy who mapped the car also builds the ECUs and is a bit of a legend when it comes to mapping cars, Dave Walker is his name.

Nice project you got there, what is the kit based around? did you have to modify the sump to get it to fit??

Theres a  firm in the UK doing these kits for like yours for M42/4s and S50 motors

Engine + Driveline / E36 Radiator into E30 318is
« on: April 09, 2010, 02:51:41 PM »
Hi do you have the real oem part number or the age and engine size the radiator you fitted came from?

dont realy understand how the expantion tanks work but where have you put the hose that usualy goes to the bottom left of the rad undder the "top hose" thats slightly smaller in diameter.

I'd idealy like to fit the expantion tank were the battery would go, would this be possible as ive a superchargeer in let pipe were yours is :-)
