Engine + Driveline / Power cuts off at high revs

Possibly.  I added a fuel injector cleaner, but it didn't seem to remedy the problem..

I had this same exact problem.  I was only able to rev to about 4.5k and then it would act like a rev limiter was in place.  Once i brought the throttle down it would run fine.  Strangely, like 2 months later, over the course of a couple weeks, i was able to rev higher and higher, until one day, the problem just went away.

Hey Guys,

I replaced my starter and now my windows and the ac/heater blower don't work.  I made sure to disconnect the battery when I replaced the starter, so I dont think I fried anything.  I've already checked my fuses and they're good.  Something loose?  Any ideas?

Engine + Driveline / Rough idle and clanking noise
« on: December 14, 2007, 05:09:28 PM »
Hey guys,

A little background:
So a few months ago I was getting a intermittent check engine light, and the fault code reported that it was a faulty coolant temp sensor.  So I finally got around to replacing it.   I had to take off both the lower and upper intake manifolds to get to it.  After getting out a cross threaded cts, I was finally able to replace it and put the car back together.  I drove I around that night (probably about 10 miles), and then the next day as I was on the freeway, my car started running very rough, and was loosing power.  I was able to drive it so a safe spot.  I started it a few times, however, after about 2 or 3 starts it started making a very rough diesel noise.

Thinking it was a timing chain issue, I towed it back home and pulled the lower oil pan, however there was nothing in there. Today I pulled the manifolds off again, and one of the intake valve stems is extremely dirty (only one of them is dirty the other 7 look clean).

What does this mean?

Engine + Driveline / Engine cutting out... ideas?
« on: May 23, 2007, 03:28:09 PM »
There are no erratic instrument malfunctions..  all of the gauges (mpg gauge, Tach), seem to be working normally.  Is there a way to tell if its a fuel problem or a engine RPM problem?  Could not enough fuel be getting to the engine causing it to sputter?

Ok so I have determined that this behavior only happens when the engine reaches normal operating temperature.  If that helps any

I was thinking that I may have some sort of vacuum leak somewhere.  Once the engine reaches normal operating temperature, those seals get warm and start loosen, causing a air leak.  Fuel filter is another option.

And no, the fuel economy gauge doesnt swing erradically when it happens

Are there any good sites that tell you how to clean the TPS and the AFM. where exactly are they on the engine?  Thanks for your help

Hey Guys,

These past few weeks I have been having problems with my engine sputtering at random RPM's.  The car will be fine when I first drive it, but after about 5 minutes it acts like it hits the rev limiter and starts sputtering.  I will then take it down to a lower RPM and it will be fine.

I do a lot of city driving so not being able to rev the engine as fast as I want when I am shifting is really a pain (ie. shifting at 2k RPM's, before the engine starts sputtering at 2.5k)

Any ideas??

I've replaced the valve cover gaskets and the spark plug gaskets. Because I found oil in the spark plug cylinder, but that didnt help the problem.

Engine + Driveline / Update: Cooling problem / Part II: Timing case
« on: April 03, 2007, 04:38:02 PM »
Ok so I went ahead and decided to apply some jb weld over the hole and reassemble the cooling system.  No leaks and its not over heating!!! but now I can't rev the engine past 5000 rpms without the engine cutting out (almost as if there was a rev limiter set there). Any ideas? I thought it might be a vacuum leak. but i dont know where to look.

i suppose it could also be a puncture, and then the metal wouldnt be inside the timing case...

The only thing is that I dont have the tools, experience, or the money to take the timing cover off.  So if its possible to stick some jb weld in there for a couple weeks until I can gather the funds to permanently fix the hole (and maybe get the metal out, if its really in there), that would be sweet..

Another thing to keep in mind is that the metal from the hole is floating around in there somewhere.  Is it driveable with the hole? What does the cover cover up?
