Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / Building my M42, questions
« on: May 05, 2007, 02:47:12 AM »
ok, so I have a pretty good idea of what i want to do, just no idea where to get parts. well, I get OEM parts from BMA or Pelican Parts, but as far as performance goes, i haven't got a clue where to start shopping. I know I want 11:1 compression pistions, stronger rods, M44 crank, etc. Where could I get the rods and pistions? And do I need to get different if I use the M44 crank?

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / Building my M42, questions

Thanks alot for your advice. I was looking @ MAF conversion kits online, found one on Miller Motorsports I believe the name was. I was looking @ using an M44 crank, 11 to 1 compression pistons, and refreshing all the gaskets and belts. And get some head work done on it. I've looked around ALOT for info on rebuilding and performance for our engines. I found the sticky to the service manual, but for some reason I can't get it to load on my internet @ home. I looked @ some of the magazine articles and found part one of the GRM article which helped alot. I have another question now though. Is there something that needs to be done to the block to accomidate the higher compression pistons?

Suspension / H&R springs
« on: April 30, 2007, 09:23:21 PM »
if i had to guess......

IE's are stiffer, offer a lower stance, and overall better performance

btw, when you're done w/ those H&R's, i'll be glad to take them off your hands :D

Goals- At least 150 RELIABLE whp
Budget- well, i won't be buying everything @ once, so this is kinda flexible I guess.
What can I do myself- I'll get back to you on this one, still trying to get as many tools as possible
Who can help me- I don't know anyone in my area that is willing to help me w/ this

So my headgasket needs to be replaced, and seeing how its gonna take 527375357 years just to change that, i figured while its all opened up i should build it. I was thinking stroker using the M47 crank, but that thing is expensive, and rare. What other options do I have to build up an N/A motor w/ half decent power? And what would I need to buy? And how much should I be looking to spend? Lol sorry, I'm an engine building noob :P

Engine + Driveline / big engine problem :(
« on: April 24, 2007, 07:20:16 PM »
So..... i've had my car on the road for a little over a month, and have owned it about 2 (had a little oil pan mishap :P). the previous owner informed me of a small coolant leak, saying it leaked onto the exhaust, and evaporated instantly. I had no reason to doubt him, so I left it unchecked for a while. Suddenly a couple of days ago, I decided to check it out.... opened the oil cap...... and found all the missing coolant. I believe this has been going on for a while, although it has yet to affect performance. How likely is it that anything (besides the head gasket) could be damaged? I can't find a replacement engine that I can afford anytime soon, and this is my daily driver. Pointers would be very helpful.

Suspension / Control Arm question
« on: April 17, 2007, 05:04:58 PM »
lol my car has almost all of those signs. Will be changing out the arms as soon as I get some $$.

Also, is there a place that sells performance bushings for the suspension on our cars? There are quite a few bushings on my car that look circa 1991 :p

Thanks for all the great info you guys are giving me. I know that there are turbo volvo's here that are gasoline engines. I think I will look a little more into that turbo. I will probably go w/ 666 to get a manifold made. That's the kind of thing I want to make sure is done right. Right now I'm looking to buy another engine so that I can rebuild it and make sure it is just right for a turbo. And new clutch and flywheel are a must for the way I drive :D

General Topics / NASCAR-Montoya
« on: April 16, 2007, 11:10:48 PM »
I love how he pissed Tony Stewart off Sunday. He was keeping Montoya from advancing in the field for a few laps, so he gave him a little love tap as he passed, and Stewart couldn't handle it. Best part was after the race, seeing Stewart pissed and Montoya didn't even care to think about it.

I'm looking to make my own kit for as cheap as possible, w/out missing any components. i probably will end up buying a turbo from someone rather than getting one from a junk'd car (unless i find one in really good shape). How would I go about getting a manifold?

lol im not looking for HUGE power like that, i'd be petrified to go from having 100whp to almost 300 :P

I'm looking to get between 200 - 250 whp. Are there specific cars i should look for in the junkyard that contain components that would help me achieve this goal?

Search on eBay for a seller named Turboracerx. He sells a B&M copy that's awesome. I think it was $35 including shipping. It's been it the car for a few months now. Very smooth with a nice satisfying click when it engages.

GREAT INFO!! Thanks for your input.
