Ok well looking on bmwfans I found that grommet is part # 35 41 1 152 744
So that is one thing figured out, anything else that I'm missing though?

Searched the forums and then google image to try and see what a normal M42 throttle cable and related areas should look like and it confirms my belief that mine is missing something. Right where the cable surround stops at the gate on the throttle body there is supposed to be a rubber holder of some kind, mine sits loose in there.
I got a picture as well, what exactly am I missing and anyone know the part number?
I was thinking I'll just get a new throttle cable, but will that have the little parts I don't have or will I need to get that as well?

General Topics / Vac Hoses!

So in trying to sort out my Lambda 1 code replacing all the vacuum hoses seems like the first thing to try, and all new vacuum hoses is just a good thing no matter what.
Where are all the vacuum hoses? I have a moderate amount of automotive experience but only a years worth of diving right in and this is also my first E30. I'm seeing that blunttech sells 5 meters of different color vacuum hose, price depends on color, do these colors matter or is it all the same? Seems to me I can just buy a spool of it like that and cut it up and replace all the hose once I know where it all is.

General Topics / Average Gas Mileage?

Ok so did just under 300 miles, almost half and half city and highway and it came out to 29.9mpg, pre-trip I added a bottle of Lucas fuel system cleaner with my fill up, we'll see how that affects my normal city driving mileage, however I also have bigger tires on now which may affect things as well.
I have yet to sort out my idle Lambda 1 code so that might be causing an issue (however I haven't seen the engine light come on at all since the trip, today will be the test)

Yeah the more details the better! You say I'll have to cut the fabric headliner to fix it?
The fabric isn't the prettiest so I wouldn't mind loosing it and recovering it myself, but it'd be much easier to remove the whole thing, is this quite a task? I think I saw a writeup for it somewhere

Beautiful layout Dave, I keep a similar spreadsheet of everything that happens to my car down to the last detail and what's changed.
I just got 22MPG with city driving, however yesterday went on a 300 mile or so trip and looks like it'll come out somewhere around 30-32 with mixed highway and city. We'll see later today!
Once I get all my little issues sorted out hopefully my fuel consumption will rise at least a little.

Engine management / "Intermittent" Check Engine Light

Yeah turned out to be a 1222, Lambda #1.
Mess under intake has been removed by PO, I'm going to remove and clean the throttle body today and I was thinking I might just replace every hose on the entire car soon just for peace of mind and to blot out some doubts! Thanks guys I'll investigate!

Engine + Driveline / AFR Problem at Idle ?

Ok so after driving a while when I come to a stop and sit at idle for a while my check engine light lights up. The second I give it any gas it goes away.
Turns out it is code 1222 Lambda Control #1 which means the AFR is too lean or rich for longer then 10 seconds. Not great since the list of possible causes is so long but at least it's a start.
Since it is only coming on when I sit at idle for a while this means that it's only getting too rich/lean during idle.
So what would cause me to be too lean/rich only at idle?
Also the car is showing no symptoms as far I can tell.

Well I did a lot of searching and I could not seem to find any threads on this, just a few random ones about people getting really bad gas mileage problems.
I want to know what people are getting as average gas mileage figures. Obviously this will be skewed by many factors, biggest being chassis of course. So it'd be best if you state your car, MPG, and any important mods or as many as you want to list.
I just bought my 91' 318is, haven't been able to collect to many figures yet but will keep updating.
First time, pretty hard city driving, 21 mpg. (also had a flat)
Second run, new sparks and air filter, 23 mpg. (shit tires)
I have just gone from polyurethane motor mounts to stock which has made a pretty big difference, also changed oil, oil filter, fuel filter, so we'll see how that effects things in this next run.
Mod wise, mustang injectors, mess under hood removed, eibach lowerings in front, IE springs in back, KYB gas adjusts in back, bilstein sports in front, other then that the tires on are currently shit but hopefully I'll be getting new ones this week. Also pulls to right which I plan on straightening out soon, but that's also effecting mileage a little.
I'll throw a poll in even though it won't be very informative without details on car specs so posts are preferred.

So there appears to be nothing wrong with the car (91' 318is) but after driving it a while, if I come to a stop and have it just idling for a while the check engine light comes on. The second I start moving again or possible give it gas it goes away...

For Sale / M42 Polyurethane Motor Mounts

PO had installed these and the car had them when I bought it. I don't know the exact length of time they were on the car but they did not show any signs of damage or over-wear. They appear to be perfect, no cracks or damage to them and the threading and screw ends are perfect.
I replaced them with stock motor mounts because I didn't like the vibration these polyurethane ones create at idle. It's not horrible just annoying, it's really only at idle and once the car has been running for a while it smooths out or disappears.
Anyhow I've seen these going for 80$-90$ but I have no use for them anymore so I'll sell the pair for 75$ shipped anywhere in the US, out of US and want them, well message me and we'll work it out.
Want to make an offer, feel free.
