Engine + Driveline / Camshaft timing question
« on: March 07, 2013, 11:33:41 PM »
If you are careful you should be able to push the pin out from behind on one of your old gears and replace the pin on the new one.

Probably worth using some glue/adhesive of some kind to help hold it in.

Engine + Driveline / Calling all dbilas ITB owners - air leak
« on: February 08, 2013, 09:16:12 PM »
Anyone who has/had a set of these ITBs,

I'm having an issue where a pretty big air/vacuum leak occurs around where the shaft that turns the throttles enters the throttle body, it looks as though there should be some sort of seal there.

Basically it leaks from where the arrow points, but from each side of each throttle. Could

Does anyone know if there is a seal you could get or if you could make one?'
Its making it hard to tune for idle, and makes the engine struggle if you blip the throttle too quick.

WTB/WTT / WTB: ITB's for my 91 M42

Theres a set on german ebay that isnt dbilas

Obviously not a complete kit, so you would either need to build your own plenum, or go to a standalone to run alpha-n. You'd also need to sort out where the crankcase breather goes. Otherwise, the actual throttle bodies look very similar to the dbilas set i have.

Bring the brake lines and clutch/flywheel kit with you to Aus and I'll gladly relieve you of them :)

Engine management / ostrich 2.0 with ITB's
« on: October 23, 2012, 06:47:23 PM »
I run the dBilas ITB set with an Ostrich 2.0. Works great. The only difficultly I've had is perfecting the 'Acceleration fuel enrichment' to deal with the rapid increase of airflow when initially opening the throttles. The stock throttle opens the top plate a fraction, before opening the bottom so the airflow is more gradual.

I also haven't worked out how to log my o2 readings off my LC-1 against rpm, throttle position.

How much room up against the strut do you have on the rear. Im trying to see if I can get something 16x9 et20 and run 225/45's. What do you reckon?

Looks awesome.

What offset and tyre size are you running?

Replace the hood shock. New units give a solid pop and hold the hood firmly. I ordered a cheap on off Pelican, but the of the shock bent and now the hood closes at a weird angle, so maybe try another brand. If you don't use a shock, the hood will fall shut, unless you park downhill all the time.

Ive looked into seafoam before. Pretty unavailable down here.

Im certainly not pulling anything appart, its running well at the moment.

Apparently the PO had the head rebuilt before he sold it. Could decking the head for a rebuild increase compression this much?

All in PSI

Way to high?

For Sale / parting out m42 engine

Interested in all the timing parts inc the gears. I've been planning to to do that job for a while, my chain's concerning-ly rattly, even after a new tensioner.

Are you willing to ship to Sydney, Australia?

Are you able to add/send any photos?

Check your plugs. My m42's not tuned properly yet and occasionally it dumps a whole lot of fuel when it stalls/is turned off and the plugs have been getting wet, meaning that it struggles to start and won't idle.

Yeah, the PO was a spray painter, so that makes sense. I got rid of the massive sub box etc he had in it, and are giving it a fair bit of love and attention.
