BUMP
Serious shoppers don't let this one slip  by the radar.
 Remember this is an OBO..
 This is Good Value.
...........If it is any help. I paid $4100 for the Car on 4/30/2011..not including taxes, reg and Transfer fees. However after that I can show receipts to the tune of $1300 in upgrades/parts.
The vehicle is well worth the asking.
The shopper should consider condition and updates.

Thanks..
I bought it locally so it will probably go the same..
I am sure that there is an anxious High Schooler or College student waiting to get his/her sweaty hands on it .. LOL

The car retails closer to $2500-$3000 BUT...............
if someone was to Buy one they would then put the $3000 + into that car like I did... Just the Tires/Brakes/Struts-Shocks/OB Computer/TuneUp was a $2500-$3000 Plus out lay.
BTW the OB Computer replacement is the Engine's Computer Not Dashboard..
I bought the BMW with 106,500 on the ODO and now shows 109500..
So, I didn't wear the upgrades..
The New Owner will have the Driving Fun..No immediate under the Hood/Bonnet time nor trips to the Garage..
And like I said Everything works!  :)

General Topics / Engine Oil Surprise!
« on: September 02, 2011, 11:47:33 PM »
Nothing brings a diverse response like Engine Oil.. :o

I think the Next Oil change will be 10/40 as the temp here in New England Dec thru Feb gets pretty cold. Plus I will be driving the BMW less during those months and drive the Jeep.. I want to make certain that the BMW cranks easily if it sits more then a week or two.
:o

I took Great efforts to replace as many Oil gaskets as possible Crankcase cover to Oil pan, oil pressure switch etc. Also along the way water pump Gaskets and Head.... Some of this Done by the Dealer just prior to purchase.. So right now at 109k my m42 is dry as a bone.. :D

General Topics / Engine Oil Surprise!
« on: August 24, 2011, 09:28:10 AM »
Ok, I have been changing Engine Oil & FiIlter for my autos for years and for all types of vehicles. My 09 Jeep Cherokee 3.7 V6 wants 5/20 wt oil per Jeep..
So, I prepared to change the Oil and filter on my 93 318i and did check this forum first.  I came away with need to use 20/50 wt. So, I bought 5 qts.. only to discover later that I needed 5.29 quarts...(got to think liters).. Just after I purchased the oil I called the local BMW only to have the parts and service depts inform me that ("if you came in here you would get 15/40 wt.. So, I caved and exchanged the 20/50 for 15/40 which is sold as a Diesel Grade by each manufacturer BTW... Does this make a difference, probably not significant for my Daily Driver?

I must say though, nice easy oil change. The cartridge oil filter faces up and is on top of the engine right up front.. I guess the engine was designed around the oil filter........ :D

Interior / Head Liner Sag
« on: August 23, 2011, 11:38:19 AM »
Thanks Dave, I was considering that myself....
The spray fabric glue such as those from Wilson Art etc... are very liquid.
As such I was considering spraying through a tube as with WD-40. As the two the small sags are half the size of space on which I am posting this message and by the edge of the liner I am thinking I might get away with the minimal repair....

So, you don't think the idea of shrinking the fabric with a hot hair dryer has much merit?
Especially being such a small spot.. I realize that the Hot Hair Dryer could possibly unglue even more of the liner. Keeping that in mind I was hoping to to find someone who had already made the attempt..

Interior / Head Liner Sag
« on: August 22, 2011, 11:56:44 PM »
Two very small sags have appeared in my sedan's headliner., each about 2 inches in size.. However I pressed them in and they appeared to have stuck back up for the moment...
Question.. I was considering dampening them and applying a Hair Dryer to shrink the fabric...
  Any thoughts..Suggestions??

General Topics / Cabin Air Filter Replacement
« on: August 22, 2011, 11:53:02 PM »
Just a bit of commentary......
The 93 E36 318i has made it ot 108,700 miles and I just had to replace the Cabin Air Filter. Let me say that when I removed it there was the look of several mice nests and was it black and dirty and smelled really bad... The latter (the Smell) caused me to replace the filter..

What I wanted to share was that I had to take a lot more apart then anticipated..
The Glove Box, The dash Floor/Base (which supported and hid the bottom of the glove box), an BMW radio Amplifier attached to the glove box. Elec plug junction box, a Vent tunnel  and of course the filter. Also some monkey had wrapped the amplifier feed wire around the venting direction cable and Gears.. so I had to correct that...
All in all not too bad but a bit time consuming.

Electrical / Rear Window Defogger Relay
« on: August 11, 2011, 09:30:07 AM »
Follow up.........
I had the BMW Dealer order the part..
The part has been superceded by a Green Colored Relay with a 5th center prong... Go Figure..
Either way the Rear Window Defroster (Heated Glass) is still non functional.

I have Replaced all Fuses (2) and the Relay in the Fuse Box( Power Distrubution Box) under the Hood/Bonnet.
Also I have replaced the Heater/AC Contol Unit in Center Console.
Further I have checked connection junctions at Rear Window and Traced the Wires in the Rear Window Glass for Breaks/Continuity..

Next through the BMW Bentley Manual I have discovered that there is an additional wiring relay behind the Glove Box..
When I remove the Glove Box to replace the Cabin Fresh Air Filter I will check that relay.
 Maybe I will be Lucky!

« on: July 25, 2011, 01:59:08 PM »
Last 2 weeks it has been in the mid 90s and low 100s in New England.
This summer New England has been much hotter then usual.
Anyhow, my 93 318i with std 5 spd will average about 27mpg w/o AC..
With AC on the car will be about 24mpg.
My vehicle just turned 108k..
