I had a similar problem with on sparkplug lead, when cold everything was fine, when it heated up it started misfiring badly.

I think in your case a similar thing happened only it started interfering with your camshaft sensor.

The best solution is just to ditch your leads and go C.O.P.

Engine + Driveline / Whining Chain Drive on new setup
« on: August 27, 2008, 08:21:45 AM »
I'm not quitte sure but i recall when fiddeling around with one of my old tensioners, i got it back into the locked (factory) position, by compressing and then rotating the piston.

not sure whether this was an old or new style piston.

now a little off-topic but does anyone have that tractor-like chain noise on the first 1-2 seconds of start-up. in mine it sounds like the tensioner looses it's pressure during the night. leave the car for a few hours;it sounds fine. leave it overnight and it sounds like one of those old mercedes diesels.

Engine + Driveline / Need help with startup noise: rattle/zip

I have got exactly the same problem, when you look at the oil pressure light does it make the sound rougly as long as the light is on?

mine does, and this to me is an indication that the tensioner is loosing its pressure over time when not running.

does anyone whether the tensioner is supposed to stay pressurised?

My car hesitated under load allthough at a specific rev,  turned out that one of the sparkplug wires was cracked at the bottom. the plug wires are a pretty common fault, but unfortunately rather expensive to replace.

Also please note that after 07/94 they switched to smaller valve stems.

I think the newer ones are around 6mm.

Suspension / Anyone run KW springs? Pic request...
« on: May 30, 2007, 04:03:53 PM »
I run 35/35 KW's for about a year know and love them. for sporty street use this is the best suspension available in my opinion. I live in holland close to the border in germany and they weren't that expensive over there.

i know they lack firmness setting etc. but i don't miss it for street use.

I ordered them here:

Engine + Driveline / update on cilinderhead replacement
« on: May 28, 2007, 01:10:43 PM »
hello,

a quick update:

i bought a '93 e36 head last week. when installing the head this is what i found:

- head is identical in terms of water passages etc.
- valve stem diams. are the same (~7mm) up to 7/'94. after that they change to ~6mm

i used my own cams, lifters and bearings because they looked near perfect.
after i rebuild the engine it ran really bad, shaking violently with plumes of grey smoke. i noticed the air gap between the camshaft position sensor and the stub on the pulley was rather large. i got rid of the o-ring and used liquid sealant instead. this reduced the air gap, and it seems to be running fine now!!

what does this sensor regulate? ignition timing?

Engine + Driveline / e36 M42 head on e30 M42 engine
« on: May 17, 2007, 04:00:48 AM »
Hello,

I just pulled my head and found that it was cracked. I found a head with shrick racing cams on the internet. but this is a '93 e36 head. will this fit my e30 m42?

also: what performance gains to expect from the race cams vs. fuel consumption and drivability? is it worth it?

Best Regards,

Roel
