Thanks Nelson. I'll take a look at the site, but it sounds great!

Looks like the trunk panel (51 47 1 933 720) has the actual cut out, and isn't perforated to remove, like the one I had.

What I needed as the duct between the one you gave me and inner fender liner. What I came up with is: Air duct, right - 51471977002 and Air duct, left - 51711979139 from bmwfans.info and RealOEM.

Anybody got the part number for the brake ducts and trunk trim panel that backs up to the back seat.

The trunk trim panel is black and made of cardboard or similar. The part number might be - 51471933720

Suspension / steering clunk noise/feel 1991 318is

Sounds just like what I have plus the steering wheel (?) locks momentarily while turning between 10 and 2 o'clock. With the car off, it doesn't do it, with it raised and running it doesn't do it. It only occurs when on the ground and running.

Are there parts to replace in the steering column, bushings, etc.?

I'm going to look at the struts and steering column/u-joint tomorrow.

Engine management / Rev limiter location and repair?

Cable seems good.

It's just a cut out at ~4300 RPMS.

You might also check your throttle cable.  It could be binding ..

The cluster may well have been swapped out over the years. What do I need to check for and what's rhe right cluster?

Engine management / Rev limiter location and repair?

I've had the car since April, but this was the first time I drove the car hard. I was in a pack of two Porsche 911 Turbos trying to keep up through the back roads. :)

Dave - The cluster has not been swapped out to my knowledge.

Carlos - It did not appear that the engine was screaming (the car is quiet as a mouse with the stock exhaust), but then I'm used to a 911 Turbo with a open exhaust and a 7500 RPM limit.

bmwconnect - What does that mean? Can you expand on it some more?

Thanks guys!

Jim

Engine management / Rev limiter location and repair?
« on: January 02, 2012, 03:37:06 PM »
I took the car for a good drive yesterday (first time) and when I revved to about 4300-4500 RPM, the engine started cutting out like a rev limiter was kicking in. The engine/car runs great up until that point. With the red line at 6k +, what is going on? Where is the rev liniter and what can I do to check it?

The other thought is the tach is off and I really am hitting the rev limiter?

How much do you want for what you have?

And I'll need to get the e36 cable and the mounting bracket correct?

On the brake duct, I'll measure mine as well.

I'm using a MOMO wheel (non-airbag) with a 1" spacer, so the wheel might be further back?

How far/close would the stalk be to a stock wheel?

Here's one on ebay, but it's $130 !!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?VISuperSize&item=140600941128

Oops!

Sorry Dave, I've been busy.

Not sure what I need, but here's a pic of my front end. I did see that the louvers are at the end of my right brake duct.

WTB: Left front brake duct. It's the one with the temp sensor port and directional ducts at the wheel end.

I think it's number 2 or 5 in the link:
