Electrical / Sensor near drivers fog light ripped off? Car wont start!?!
« on: January 13, 2008, 01:10:32 PM »
Thats what my mechanic suggested. I was going to order one from pelican but they only list a camshaft position sensor... I might end up changing both. Reading my repair manual it says if the Cam Sensor is bad, the ECM will not know when to deliver spark or fuel to the engine... that sounds like its spot on.

Im going to try to find somebody with an Ohmeter and check the sensors... I hope thats it.

The car cranks, all lights and everything come on. The battery is fully charged. Ive been having a problem recently (posted recently), with the car stuttering at certain RPMs throughout every gear and not allowing me to pass that RPM, whatever it may be at the time. When the weather warmed up, that went away, so I figured it was the cold weather making something malfunction. It was warm today, but it was raining, and it started happening on my way to work again where it would jump at certain RPMs, and it would stall at idle. I got to work, went out after work to go home, and it started, then stalled, and now it wont start again.

I checked other harnesses under the front, and all seem to be intact except for that ambient temp sensor. I thought that's what it was, and figured it had nothing to do with the starting issue, but now that it wont start and the sensor is completely gone, I figured Id ask if it was related. I dont know what the hells wrong with this thing. Faulty Coils?

I went out to go home from work, and the car wont start. I looked around and saw some wires hanging under the front bumper, actually OUT from under the bumper near the drivers side fog. A brown wire and a blue wire. The blue wire has a boot connector on the end, the brown wire is disconnected in a way that looks like it was TORN from a sensor or something. Does anybody know what sensor this is that Im talking about. The car wont start now and my car is going to be stranded at work.

Engine + Driveline / Stuttering at 3500 rpm??
« on: January 02, 2008, 04:40:03 PM »
way too many miles. lol, almost 220k. Im going to do a full tune up this weekend and see how everything looks. Unfortunately, the tensioner bolts on the alternator and such were stripped, so the only way I could tighten them was to pry them back and tighten them at the same time. They are tight to the touch, barely move at all.

Hmm. I just got new belts and installed them with a new alternator. I think the voltage problem was a result of cold weather (it was around 15 degrees this morning when this happened). I started it a while ago and it went straight to 14volts. You're the second person to suggest the coil/plug wires though. Im going to try that out tomorrow and hope it fixes the problem. Thanks man!

Engine + Driveline / Stuttering at 3500 rpm??

I was driving along this morning, looked at my volts gauge and saw that it had dipped down near 12, so I rev it a few times and I hear the belt catching and it goes back up to near 14volts. A few minutes later, it dips again, and it continues to go back and forth a few more times down the road. I pulled over and turned the car off for a few minutes thinking I should give it a rest. I turn it back on, pull away, it dips to 12, and now whenever the tach hits 3500, it stutters like it's hitting the rev limiter. This happens in all the gears. Any idea what this could be?

Suspension / Tokico shocks/struts... Is it worth it?
« on: November 23, 2007, 09:44:24 AM »
thanks D. Ive been doing a bit more research and am thinking for another 200 bucks I can get the Bilstein/HR combo from TurnerMotorsport. Im leaning more towards that now. From what I read, the tokico stuff isnt much different than stock stuff when it comes to the twisties.
The illumina adjustables arent available for 318i fitment, but i guess that doesnt matter either.

Electrical / Dome Light
« on: November 22, 2007, 10:08:21 PM »
Ive been thinking about getting some super bright LED's from my guys at Oznium.com, maybe these LED floods, one on each side of that overhead SRS plastic panel thingy.... http://www.oznium.com/high-intensity-led-floodlight

Id just wire it to a switch in my center console and use those as dome lights... they are certainly bright enough and that particular model gives off a nice wide angle of light.

Suspension / Tokico shocks/struts... Is it worth it?

The 18 year old suspension in the car is starting to really get to me... lol. Im looking for something that will be better than the stock MUSHY suspension, but I cant deal with 800 bucks worth of stuff to pay for. The tokico blue suspension is like 400 bucks shipped.
Now I KNOW tokico isnt the best known brand for quality, but its certainly better than my stock susension... But my question is this... Id rather spend this 400 on a BRAND new suspension than buying used and having to send them out for rebuilding and stuff like that, paying MUCH more in the end...

Anybody have experience with the Tokico stuff? Whats the drop look like? Id assume its not all that stiff, but is it really soft? Im only leaning toward it because its the only cheap setup for the 91 318i.... Unless theres something I dont know about it.
