Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / cam grind from delta cams questions
« on: August 30, 2010, 06:52:24 PM »
Hi I'm wondering if anyone out there has had their cams ground from Delta Cams in Tacoma. They offer two profiles, a mild and aggressive grind. I currently have the mild grind and a mark d chip but I'm thinking about going to the more aggressive grind. They recommend bigger injectors and tuning with the aggressive grind. Has anyone gone the aggressive route? And if so what are you doing for tuning? It would be great if the ECU could compensate for the cams but i think that might be wishful thinking. Any insight would be appreciated! thanks

Well some people probably saw my sale post a long time ago about the turbo stuff i was going to sell but i decided to keep it and i've slowly been getting all the bits and pieces together for the last year. The wastegate has a 10psi spring in it now but i bought a new one to drop it down to 7psi to be a little more on the safe side. Here's what i have so far:

Garrett turbo w/m24 stamped on it. I searched and found that m24 is something they just stamp on them and doesnt really tell anything about its specs, somebody know more about that than me?

turbo mani. bought off someone who said it was on their 318is. I'm trusting them based off the good naturedness of m42 owners.

tial wastegate, off-name blowoff valve

ebay intercooler

2.5" tubing, vacuum lines, oil feed and return, afm adapter for pipes

26# injectors, boost gauge, oil pressure gauge, and a cool panel i bought from a guy on e30 tech that sits where the center air vents are and has 3 holes for gauges.

innovate lc-1 and apexi safcII. Based on some threads i saw on r3v, i might hold off on the safcII and just do a basic tune with the afm and lc-1. I know a lot of guys on r3v have succesfully done this at low boost levels.

Theres an exhaust shop nearby that my friend has had work done on his el camino and he said the owner is into projects like this and if you let him give it a spin he'll give a deal on an exhaust setup. We'll see about that i guess but i plan on going 3"

what else do i need!? Unfortunately i go to college and i won't have time to do this until summer, maybe spring break if i want to risk not finishing in time and not having a car all spring. Just thought i'd give a heads up that if all goes to plan there's another possible m20 killer in the makings. :)

I'm not sure what the spring rates are. The ride is definitely a little bumpier but it still isn't bad. the handling is great, way less body roll. i've never had bilsteins and h&r's so i cant compare it to that but compared to stock i'm really happy. I did scrape for the first time pulling out of a driveway. i made it out the same one a couple days ago but this time i had two friends in the car. i pulled over and nothing was leaking so i'm thinking it was the exhaust and not something more important. it sounded like it was more in the middle/rear anyways.

I'm not sure what the part numbers are but i bought them from an ebay seller and it said they fit the 318is. I could check the box when i go home for the weekend to see if it says on there.

I finally put on my kyb's and vogtland springs yesterday and i'm real happy with how it turned out. I think the springs lowered it just the right amount and the ride is still comfortable. I haven't had the chance to really get on it in any corners yet. I'll post some pics pretty soon to see what people think.

Suspension / noise when turning left
« on: January 28, 2008, 12:56:08 PM »
so it turns out that at some point when i took the car apart and put it back together again i didn't tighten one of the exhaust support things enough and it was rattling against the exhaust during left turns. I feel pretty stupid but i guess i'm lucky thats all it was.
