Diesel sounds are normally from the chain assembly.  Try a new tensioner and see if it quietens down.  If not, I think the early guides are backordered.  Good luck.

My gut tells me the damper issue started it.  Did you install a M42 or M44 headgasket?

If you are just wanting 4 pintle injectors vs. the single pintle of 1991, factory 1992 and 1993 injectors are bolt in.  Same diameter  / flow rate etc and not air shrouded like the later larger diameter ones.

Nice of them to stand behind a ~6 year old engine with how many miles?

Lets hope it's the gauge.  Hit up the pawn shops for a good used compression tester.  Most new affordable tools are made in China.

Metric Mechanic sell the bracket for converting the M44 to front trigger.

In the USA, all M42's are OBD1.  In the comments section he says "MrArt69
This is a m42 and I'm using stock ecu with real-time programing."

I searched his other videos with no luck.

Main relay (5 pin) is 0 332 014 151  The other 2 are pretty much generic 4 pin relays.

Are you a Rush fan /  from Toronto / or?

In the US, all we got was the seatbelt and SRS light. Were does the oil level sensor go in the M42 engine?

U joints are staked at the factory so not really replaceable unless you are a pro.  Flex disk and center support are both DIY type repairs.

The hose you need is 8x13.  Buy the good stuff.  You will also need two new hose clamps if your car had the recall done....BMW used a tamper proof style clamp.

Boging is normally a lean condition.  Look at anything that allows too little fuel or too much air.  Dirty injectors / clogged fuel filter / low pressure / volume.  Check fuel pressure with and without vacuum hose connected. Verify DME coolant temp sensor (blue) with DVOM.  Look for cracks in the boot from AFM to TB.  Intake gaskets leak?

Have a local buddy with know good AFM you could try?

DO you have a newer M42 with knock control?

Main relay original.  They can go bad.

Wouldn't hurt to clean engine grounds and the positive junction block to make sure you are getting proper voltage.

Good luck.

I've never seen one of those on a M42.  If you are not going to run the throttle body heater, just buy a new BMW hose that comes out of the top of the plastic water pipe.  You can twist it around to attach the other end to the nipple on the head.  That completes the cooling part.

Valve cover goes to throttle body nipple and ICV goes to intake boot. That's it.
