General Topics / 98' 318is - ABS Issue
« on: November 20, 2010, 07:27:08 AM »
Hi all,

My car has presented error code 33 - 'Operation of rear inlet valve faulty'. After doing some research, it looks likely that my ABS Module needs to be replaced, which isnt too much of a problem as they can be picked up relatively cheaply.

My problem is that there seems to be a large range of ABS module numbers for the bmw e36, so I am unsure whether I could get get a generic E36 318i ABS module with a slightly different model number (which is easier to find), or do I need the specific one for my 318is with the exact same model number (which is seeming almost impossible)?

Is there much difference between the ABS modules for different E36 models? If so, what would happen if I put the ABS module of a different E36 model into my car?

Thanks for your help in advance, much appreciated.

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / 318is 1.9 - swap for m52?

Thanks for the response Hodge.

It terms of ease of fitting and maintenance, which would be a more viable option between a supercharger and a turbo charger?

What kind of prices am I looking at for each? I can see a DASC is ~$3,500. How much would a turbo conversion be roughly?

If I was to fit a turbo/DASC, are there any other parts that must definitely be changed to accomodate the additional power etc?

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / 318is 1.9 - swap for m52?

Im new to this forum so would just like to ask a few questions. I have a 1997 318is (1.9) and I'm considering changing the engine for an m52 (2.8) engine, as on the surface, it seems like a relatively cheap way to gain alot more power as opposed to adding turbos and so on. Would this be possible in terms of size etc?

If so, would it be compatiable with my existing gearbox and everything else to provide an almost 'plug and play' solution?

If not, what would be the things that I'd need to change to enable this to actually work?

I have searched this forum and havent found anything as specific as this.

Thanks in advance.
