Engine + Driveline / Clutch replacement!!!!
« on: March 10, 2012, 11:54:02 PM »
Are there any performance clutches if you retain the m42's OEM dual mass flywheel or would it just be cheaper to do the M20 conversion since there are so many options for it?

Just like the title says. I picked it up when i bought the m42 that is now in my e21. I'm thinking about going the supercharger route eventually instead of turbo for something different(although i have much research to do). I also have a small turbo that i don't know much about but i think it'll need a rebuild. I will put up some pics tomorrow! 300 bucks with the turbo, and I will ship! I do know that the exhaust side is Garrett and the Intake side is airesearch. If the price seems steep, let me know, I'm new to all this stuff and really don't know too much... :o

General Topics / Exhaust studs
« on: January 05, 2012, 02:00:44 AM »
I've been looking to replace my exhaust studs that bolt the header to the head... however they appear to be 7mm. On pelican parts they have 6mm, 8mm, and 10mm and claim that the 8mm is for the m42. I cannot find anywhere that carries a 7mm stud. I've used a caliper to measure the studs as well as the measuring devices with all the different sizes that can be found at hardware stores to make sure that it's 7mm... Time to contact the dealer? Is the 7mm size normal? I'm assuming it is since i've tested 2 different heads that i have. I've also been to a local import auto parts store and they, just like pelican, show that the studs should be 8mm.

Alright, thank you both! :) Sounds like it's time to start saving up for a new clutch and flywheel set up

General Topics / Amateur question about the clutch pedal
« on: December 18, 2011, 11:35:39 PM »
The engagement point is actually at the very top of the pedal's travel, not near the floor at all... I looked on pelican parts and it looks as though they are the same part. I have the original one from the m42(which looked like crap), but i had just gotten a rebuilt one for the m10 several months before the swap. They look exactly the same as far as i could tell.

I swapped a m42 into my e21, runs pretty well and all but the clutch engages very very soon in the clutch pedal's range of motion, is there any way to alter that? Feels like a stupid question to ask but i can't think of anything and would appreciate some input before i wasted any money on a slave cylinder or anything else :o

Engine + Driveline / Another ICV problem
« on: August 25, 2011, 10:48:17 PM »
I will fill it with carb cleaner again. Do you completely fill the ICV with the motor down towards the ground or do you just soak the portion the air flows through? I'll check again for vacuum leaks again... I deleted the 'mess under the intake' in hopes that it would solve my problems, but maybe i forgot something. Thanks for the info on how you clean it out! :) Hopefully it works for me as well.

Engine + Driveline / Another ICV problem
« on: August 25, 2011, 08:12:30 PM »
Might be time for a new one, not sure... If i unplug the ICV the car wants to die but if i help it out with a little throttle it idles fine. If i plug in the ICV it surges like crazy. I've tried cleaning it out with both carb cleaner and WD-40. Hasn't made the slightest difference. Also, when shutting the engine off the ICV makes a clicking noise as it slams shut, not sure if that's normal or not.
