Price dropped on Dinan chip, I paid less than I thought.

Conforti chip is sold, Dinan still available.

Confirmed by Dinan, this chip does not eliminate the redline, it raises it by 500 RPMs.

Engine + Driveline / Re: Heavy bogging on take-off, caused by LFW?

I need to gas it up to at least 2k before I can think about letting the clutch out or it will fall flat on its face. And the faster I want to take off, the higher the revs need to be before letting the clutch out. I'm running the stock G240 tranny with a 3.64 diff at the moment, this is in an E21. I have a 3.91 diff, as well as a 4.40 gear set out of a Ti that I want to put into my E21 LSD. Do you think changing the diff would help? I thought I could get used to it, and I have somewhat, but it's still bothering me quite a bit.

Both chips should be run with 91 octane fuel. Again, this is just what I was told, but the person who gave me this info is a reliable source.

I was told it raises the limit to 7k. I didn't actually redline my car with the chip in, I just plugged it in and ran it to make sure it worked.

For Sale / Conforti & Dinan chips for the m42

I have two chips for sale, tested them both out to make sure they work. Selling the Dinan for 100 shipped, Conforti chip for SOLD. Conforti chip is the same as Turner Motorsports, they were Jim Conforti chips first.

Why are people saying the M20 starter is hard to find? Can't you buy them at any parts store or junkyard?

Engine + Driveline / Heavy bogging on take-off, caused by LFW?
« on: January 26, 2016, 01:51:09 PM »
My M42 swap is finally done, but I think I went too light on the flywheel. It runs great, idles OK, but if I don't rev it up before taking off the engine bogs like crazy. I went with the E21 M20 flywheel that weighed in at just over 12lbs. Should I swap it out for a standard M20 flywheel? Is there something else that might cause bogging like this? I've seen this issue before in another car and it ended up being the flywheel.

Engine + Driveline / Re: Coolant flush?
« on: December 27, 2015, 01:05:18 PM »
Found it, thanks Nick!

I could not, however, get any torque on it to remove it with the header & firewall in the way. I ended up pulling a heater core hose and forcing hose water through the engine. I'm hoping I got a pretty good flush without pulling that plug. Time will tell I guess. I'm still having trouble bleeding the system, it runs great but the temp slowly climbs at idle.

Sure.  I just pull off the heater hoses, radiator hoses, and the block & rad drain plugs.  I then use a garden hose to flush the old coolant out of the block drain, the heater core and the radiator.  I then re-connect the hoses and flush the heater core & radiator with a bit of the new coolant mix.  Finally, I replace the drains and fill as much of the system with coolant as possible, finally reconnecting the hoses to seal the system up again.

I'm sure it leaves a bit of tap water in the system, but I'm figuring spent coolant is worse for the system than a bit of chlorinated water.  I'd guess you could alternatively do this with distilled water and a short length of hose too.

Could you elaborate a little more on this process, Dave? I'm just finishing up a swap with an M42 that's been sitting for several years and I want to make sure I properly flush out the cooling system. I bought a 'flush kit' but after reading the directions they want me to cut a radiator hose and install this fitting inline. I spent way too much trying to make this swap look clean to do something like that. I have a few questions about your flush method.

Where is the drain plug on the block for coolant? Where do you start flushing water through and how do you pressurize the system?

Engine management / Re: Orientation of Conforti chip on ECU??

I did, my chip had a small dot from a sharpie on one side so i guessed that was the 'notched' side and luckily i was right.
