Engine + Driveline / Re: Exhaust manifold solution for RHD E30?
« on: March 25, 2020, 11:04:30 AM »
i have just done this by fitting a m44 into the e30. i used the m44 rhd manifold and was surprised on how much space there was around the steering column. i do use chassis mounts for the engine as i tried the e36 engine mounts and they did not fir too well. here is a vid where it shows how much room there was. Hope this is of help https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBQEG0JOo2U&t=100s

Thank you - that's awesome! I've been trying to source a M44 manifold with no luck unfortunately

Engine + Driveline / Exhaust manifold solution for RHD E30?
« on: March 16, 2020, 08:56:39 AM »
Hello,

I swapped the old M40 from my RHD E30 out for a M42 from a LHD E30. Engine swap was more or less straightforward except for the exhaust manifold. We had to cut off much of the exhaust to stop it from hitting the steering. Has anybody found a practical solution for this? Would it be possible to get an exhaust manifold from a top mount turbo and flip it upside down to face downwards around the steering shaft? RHD M44 headers are much more plentiful than RHD M42 E30 headers; would these work?

Let me know if anybody has come up with an easier more affordable solution than custom headers.

Thanks!

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / M40 Exhaust Manifold on M42?
« on: November 15, 2019, 09:47:03 AM »
Hello,

First post on this forum. I'm picking up a M42 this weekend to replace my M40b18 in my RHD touring. The engine should drop right onto the existing mounts and bolt right up to the transmission (salvaging the M40 flywheel). My biggest worry is will the M40 exhaust manifold bolt onto the M42? If not, are the LHD and RHD exhaust manifolds extremely different. Some say the steering coupling is in the way, but can anybody confirm.

Thanks.
