I bought a M47R engine from a Rover 75. So I've got the crankshaft.

The nose is clearly too short. But I saw that some modifications are possible.

I read a lot of posts on the forum : I can't find pics of the modifications (the making).

When I compare M42 crankshaft and M47R crankshaft, I disappointed. There is too many differences. Even the hex bolt is different.

Could you help me with pics and explanation ? Must I buy a e46 M47 crank ?

Been to collect the crank today and it had a bit of a design change

How is the extension fixed to the crank ?  ???

Right, so I've picked up an even cheaper rover crank, and here's some pictures,

Front end, needs turning down, oil pump drive milling and extending  :D

Back end appears to have had a timing ring on it at some point

Marking shows it to be 88mm stroke, so not an M47N

All in all a bit of an odd combination, just as long as there is enough meat on the nose and the timing ring mount doesn't give any hassle when balancing it should be fine, (but then I'm not going for 300bhp and driving a SC! ;) )

I can't find pics of a modified Rover crank  :(

Somebody can help me ?

I have built a 2L M42 with the M47 crank from a 320d. From what I've seen on a pic of the Rover M47 crank the nose is much shorter and requires a adapter to be able to use it. Thus the crank from a BMW is preffered. That one requires a second woodruff key in the nose of the crank and the nose is a couple of 1/10 mm larger. So either make the nose smaller in a lathe or make the cam sprocket + adapter for the vibration damper larger.

Then you must of course find a suitable combination of pistons and rods if not custom ordered.
