Tony,

I talked to the owner about this car and was interested until I saw the rust. There was a significant amount on the rear panel under the license plate and on the rockers behind the front wheels so I passed on the car. When you saw the car in person did you notice any rust. I may reconsider if it is not as bad as I think.

M42 Buyer's Guide / Little help

New member here, need some help. I am looking to purchase a 1991 318is to use as a daily driver. I consider myself well experienced in the E30 arena with the ownership of an 88 M3 and a 325ix. I am looking at a car with 105000 miles that needs a bunch of cosmetic work, but straight with no rust. I am not familar with the M42 motor and need some direction. The owner, whom is out of state, says the car does not use or leak any oil and it does not smoke. He agreed to do a compression test done and gets 160 across all four cylinders. He did mention that he has a slight coolant leak and has no idea where the leak is. It requires topping off the coolant every couple of months. Should I be concerned about any of this (headgasket).
I live in Colorado and am willing to ship or drive a car from out of state. If anybody knows of any cars that are good examples and under 3K I would be interested in looking at them.
Also, does anybody have unlimited access to carfax so I can confirm the mileage on this car, it would be greatly appreciated.
