General Topics / E36 318is rack into E30 318is??
« on: June 30, 2011, 02:10:59 PM »
Will this be a direct bolt in?  http://shop.rackdoctor.net/1992-1996-BMW-318is-Rack-And-Pinion-12995-786-318is.htm

What's the best rack to swap into a 318is w/ airbags without having to modify everything.  The dealer around here Inksip BMW wants $689 for a reman plus a $500 core charge.. I'm not dropping $1K+ for a rack.

Anyone got a M42 318is rack for sale that doesn't leak?  I'm going through about a quart of fluid every 3 or 4 days.

Just as title states, I'm looking for a good non leaking steering rack for my 91 318is.  My rack leaves p/s fluid trails on every right hand turn lol.. not very nice to see, and I'm waiting for the landlord to get pissed at me lol

PM me with pricing shipped to 02910

Thanks,
Tim

Engine + Driveline / Head Gasket Question
« on: February 27, 2011, 04:11:35 PM »
Romka how is Lithuania?  My g-father was born in Vilnius. I've always wanted to go check it out.  Did the Water Pump and T-Stat, cut the belt off the A/C Comp and replaced all the mess under the intake as well as replacing the ICV hoses.  Running great right now, hopefully she'll pass emissions now.

Thanks for the heads up, no sooner did I put this thread up that my water pump shit the bed.  I did the WP and T-Stat tonight after work.  I think this one is a higher temp compared to the one I took out though because the temp gauge is now at a lighter level than before.   Still gonna check it out and make sure it's good to go.  I'll look into the tensioners and guides.  Thanks again

Engine + Driveline / Head Gasket Question

I've searched for a few days on here and R3v and e30tech but not finding what I'm looking for.

I'm wondering what all you would suggest to someone to replace while doing the head gasket.  Water pump and T-Stat? Timing chain?

General Topics / The mess under the intake
« on: January 04, 2011, 04:05:45 PM »
Just figured I'd add my own $.02

A buddy and I just did this mess under the intake fix on my car the other day.  The car hasn't run this good in a long time. I knew I had a misfire somewhere as the car wouldn't idle properly and was throwning a check engine light but only at idle.  I then started seeing coolant along the bottom of the block.  also eventually heard a loud hissing noise and the car wouldn't stay running unless it was fired up 2-3 times.

Every single hose under there was split at the ends, the coolant pipe was cracked and the coolant hose at the back of the block which routes to the heater pipes was split and dumping coolant.  I removed the TB Heater like we've all talked about and it runs like a dream.

Rich Dixon - I bought the exact parts list from Post #1 and I had everything I needed... I bought my parts from Pelican.  The O-Ring I have is extra as the plastic coolant pipe came with an O-Ring on it. Also, the fuel hose, you only need about 6 inches total to replace the two short lines that route through the lower intake.

Great writeups here, I'm very pleased with how it all turned out!

Interior / Re-Upholstering Door Cards
« on: November 15, 2010, 04:51:56 PM »
Hmm, could I possibly stitch the new upholstery to the vinyl on a home sewing machine or did you get it done at an upholstery shop?  Got any pics?  I wonder if I should just try to get some door panels, pull the covers off, get them done, then swap them out w/ the ones in the car now and sell the OEs..

No interior shots as of yet.  The driver's seat is a mess, foam is good but the covering is shredded in a few spots. Passenger seat is mint.  Rear seat top and bottom both have aftermarket slip covers on them because the actual covering is missing.  The headliner is gone, bare roof and OE Cardboard stuff up there.  I'm in the process of making a new shift boot, and ebrake boot. I'd love to wrap my A and B-Pillar moldings and re-upholster the inserts of the door panels but I think that the doors are going to be a bitch! Just bought a parcel shelf (car didnt have one before) and premium speakers.

I'm hoping to re-do the seats in black microsuede from Kevin at CreativeOptions and get a headliner from him too.. i could personally care less if my sunroof worked although i do have a complete sunroof module in my garage ready to replace the current broken one.

I'm chipping away one bit at a time but I'm having a blast. I don't know what I want to do for wheels though.  At first I wanted black and red XXR 513s, but now I'm leaning toward gold BBS w/ a polished lip or one of my favorite rims of all time Ronal R10 Turbos..  what do you think for wheels?

What exactly do you have? Is the exterior trim shadowlined?  Price for the goodies shipped to 02910?  I'm winning an ebay auction right now for premium speakers so I may not need them.  I'll keep you posted

Hello Everyone, my name is Tim, I've had my E30 for about 2 yrs now and love everything about it.  I haven't done a whole hell of a lot to it yet, other than replace the godawful halo lights that were in it when I bought it.  I replaced them with simple sealed beams for now, quick cheap fix, I eventually want all yellow hellas.

Enough babble, on to the pics.
Enjoy!

The day I brought it home..
