Yeah, I'm really hoping I don't do that again, but it's easy to get comfortable. But it probably will help, at least for a while.

+1 on the store it idea... get a beater s***box and save your car
between putting 250$/month, EVERY month into a new car that looses a lot of it's value or putting maybe what... maybe 200-300$ every 2-3 months or so. think about it. what do you think your car needs to be reliable? $$ to get there vs new car payment for 5 yrs
(and the 5-6k would be more appropriate up north)
just some thoughts...
Keep the e30 in the garage. It will be worth much more than you have in it someday, enjoy it on the weekends, and try to score a newer bimmer for dd. That's my plan at least. I just intend to continue dumping money into it, and once I decided that was the path, it makes it much easier. I know it will cost me, and I know it will continue to reward me.
If you are happy with ~$3-4k for it, try to sell it to an enthusiast. At least you won't have as much guilt that someone might be beating her.
I totally understand what you are saying on the cost. However, I will say this; once you get all the silly little issues resolved, they are CRAZY reliable cars and- as you have found out- return one of the most satisfying driving experiences on the planet. That's basically the reason I opted to put all of the money into it that I did. But I've just realized recently that even though I've put a lot of money into it and replaced all sorts of stuff, I don't know that I can ever really be confident in it. I don't feel like I could drive the car to Las Vegas without a problem, but maybe I'm just paranoid.
I actually was depressed driving my wife's E46 the other day instead of the E30. Now that is a pathetic addiction...My dad has an e46 and I had to drive it a lot when my car was in pieces in the garage. Made me miss my car, as solid and confident as the e46 feels.
I'd rather see you keep it and use the forum and such to keep your cost of ownership down and keep another E30 from getting thrashed by a lame owner.Well who knows, maybe I can't sell this thing, or maybe I can't get approved for a new car. I hate the thought of the car being destroyed by some jerk but I'm between a rock and a hard place. It'd be an understatement to say I can't afford to continue the way things have been costing me so far.
