Engine + Driveline / Oil spray nozzles

I'm doing a rebuild on a 91 M42 and I noticed that the block didn't have the oil spray nozzles down in the block. I think I recall seeing them in my last block. Does anyone know or have experience with this?

from what I have seen in a failing profile gasket it seems 99% of the time it's a coolant leak just above where the coolant pump is located. In this picture it's the square section of the gasket tends to get 'squished' to the point it stretches away from the head. Personally I would replace the oil filter housing gasket and see if it's still leaking as it is totally independent of the profile gasket. AS to replacing the profile gasket, I have read where it can be done without pulling the head but as I have done the head gasket twice now, I don't see how that could be possible but what do I know... Maybe another oil leak source is the timing chain cover gaskets/seal?

There is a way.  There is a BMW special tool you can get or go to Home Depot and get a large taping knife which will serve the same purpose and cost you $7.  When you are reinstalling the timing case, place the gasket on the case and then place the knife on top of it. Make sure to lube the knife so that once the case is in place you can easily remove the knife.

It is possible to weld/bolt bracket for sensor on the m44 cover, but I was thinking that M42 cover should fit on m44 oil pump casing. In this case proably I will have to buy full M44 engine. And the problem is that I do not have space in my garage :D
What kind of provision do you mean, because as I remember it is just cover?

The problem with making a bracket is that it will never be mounted in the most accurate position for the sensor.  M42 cover will NOT fit the M44 oil pump.

The issue with using a M44 case on a M42 block is that there is no mount for the crank position sensor.  Of course, if you are using the M44 block you are golden.  Crank position sensor fits in the side of the block and pick's up it's signal from the wheel mounted to the crankshaft.

Is it possible to fit oil pump and case m44 but chain cover from M42?

No, because the original M42 case has provisions for the toothed gear that is in there and the M44 does not.  I tried that too.

I would use the later e36 M42 timing case.  The M44 case doesn't have the mount for the crank position sensor.  I know this from experience.  I rebuilt my motor earlier this year and somebody in my shop threw away my original case.  I used the M44 case from the donor block that I used the crank and rods from only to find that I had to fabricate a mount for the crank sensor.  If you get the M42 case make sure to order the oil pump as well.  The M44 gear will not work in the M42 case.  It is thicker than the M42 gear.

These are in excellent condition with tires that have about 500 miles on them.  I had them refinished because they were painted white on the lip and blue in the center.  They look normal now and beautiful.  $1500 includes shipping to the lower 48 states.  If you would like to use paypal there will be an extra fee for that.

It is still for sale.  It spent its whole life in Minnesota as a garage queen that didn't see any winters.  The car has been here since October of 2009.  There is no visible rust other than the little paint bubbles that just recently popped up on the left front fender near the headlight.
