FWIW when I bought my 91 318is years ago it had a Magnaflow with no little resonator and a cat.  I don't recall any droning but it was on the loud side when you got on it.  If you want to spend ~$400 on a Stromung cat back, you might be able to get in on the group buy over on R3v  They have great reviews online and sound nice in person.

Looks like I missed the group buy... At close to $600 retail it's a little hard to justify. I've heard good things about the dynomax super turbo, but after extensive research it looks like the insulation burns out rather quickly. Is there a higher quality turbo muffler available that's similar in tone to the ST? I don't want to go much higher than $300 ($400 max), money's a bit tight at the moment.

*Update - I've located the PN and did a Google search, it's a 40 series delta flow.  Apparently the Delta flow is supposed to be the least "droniest" of the 40 series line, but from what I understand the 40 series is pretty extreme to begin with, so this is probably the source of the cabin drone. So new question... Would a magnaflow (PN 14815) be better in the drone department? It's listed on their website as "moderately" loud, whereas the Flowmaster is listed as "aggressive", it's also pretty affordable ($200 on Amazon) and the twin tips look nice, similar to a Supersprint or Eisenmann, without having to spend an arm and a leg.

Hey guys... I'm having an issue with a pretty bad drone at 2-3k on my 318is. Cat and resonator are stock, muffler is a chambered Flowmaster with a big, ugly, oval exhaust tip that flares downward ( muffler was on the car when I bought it). So I'm wondering, is the resonator worn out, is it the muffler and/or tip, or possibly a combination of all three? It's not THAT loud but goodness is the low rpm drone bad, I'd like to get this sorted out and would greatly appreciate any feedback on what could be causing this issue.

Thanks,
Ross
