had this professionally powdercoated by a very reputable shop last summer and never got around to using them on my e30 before i just recently sold it. it was sandblasted and coated wrinkle black as the base with red fins and logo.  this is a very nice set and will compliment any m42 engine bay espcially in a birilliantrot

that being said, this will be sold as a set without splitting.

$250 plus cost of shipping from 06708 FIRM

Engine + Driveline / UHMV Solid Mounts Review
« on: September 12, 2010, 10:16:00 PM »
hey guys,

I partnered with Silence who makes the power steering delete plates and UMHV Solid mounts for our chasis. He makes M20 and 24v swap mounts which have been really helpful to members on here.  I asked him to look into M42 motor moutns for us since the only other competitor besides OEM is Vorschlag (who is very pricey and back ordered).  I asked AKG if they would make mounts for us as well but they have no intentions on making them.

Silence sent me out a set of mounts to test fit.  Since our mounts have offset bolts the first set I recieved did not work because the mount was a striaght bolt through.

After talking about it over the phone we realized that the 24V swap mounts he has are based off of the e28 mounts which are also offset.  For those who don't know we can use stock e28 mounts as well in our M42's, you just cut off the centering tab if I remember correctly.

He sent me the set of mounts and side by side comparison was a perfect match!  The stock mounts were compressed from years of use and the UMHV mounts I had were exactly the same height matching the compressed stock mounts. Vorschlag makes there mounts the match compressed size as well to avoid hitting the hood, since solid mounts will not compress. The offset bolts were perfect!  The only thing I had to change about the mount was to cut the bolt 1/8 shorter to squeeze it in.  I'm sure if Silence decides to offer the M42 mounts he would look into this and shorten the bolt.

I took some pics of the fitment and side by side comparison's for you guys and since Silence asked.  I also installed the matching tranny mounts too.

I love the feel of the mounts, they definitely increase the noise vibration in the cabin, but it does not bother me.  You can feel the difference even at startups.  Overall, I'm very happy with the product and would reccomend these to anyone looking to replace mounts with solids UMHV ones.  This is a great alternative to stock mounts and Vorshlag mounts and you can't beat the price!

Onto the pics:

I can tell you right now that if you had a real measuring device that you would be very intrigued. The 3.73 will be slower off the line and have more run out on top end. The 4.10 will be faster off the line and will not have the top speed of a 3.73 or a 3.91. The 4.27 will be even faster off the line but again slower at top speed. It all depends on your driving habits of city, highway or combined.
But if you change the gearing in the transmission then its another ball game.
I can hit 60 in 2nd gear with my 188 4.10LSD:D
Cheers,
~Ralph
