I dunno, but I have always heard that the OEM windshield gasket was the one.  When I did my windshield a year or two ago that was what I ordered and it fit like a glove.

Did you find one?  If not, I may have one on my spare motor.  You are referring to the pulley hub on the crank, right?

That white one would look like a promising ride.  I'm looking at a green one in WA right now that has a popped headgasket.  Where do people get off in asking $1600 for a car with a bad HG?  That job is worth more than the car itself!

This is the chip (ECU NOT included) that was in my daily driver and is in excellent condition. Car ran very well with chip installed but I removed to go a different direction (potential turbo application). Located in WA.

I pulled the chip. I did verify that it is 91 octane.
Horsepower Gain: +12 @ 5,500 RPM
Torque Gain: +15 @ 2,500 RPM
New Rev Limit 7,000 RPM

Hey Norm.  I know what you mean about being a car guy with none of the neighbors being car guys.  I've had a number of them remark "wow!  you have a lot of old BMW's!"  When I put my motor in (for the third time) the neighbors were all staring as they walked the dog.  Apparently no one does automotive work themselves any more.

Do you own an E36 Bentley manual or a E36 Haynes Manual?  If so there are relevant sections to timing the car.  I would be especially cautious of having bent valves if you jumped timing.  There are some really good articles on timing chain replacement on the web.  I used this one for my first timing system replacement on the M42: http://www.esatclear.ie/~bpurcell/318istimingchain.html

I'd recommend that you read up on the procedure and decide if this is something from a time/tools/ability standpoint that you can tackle.

I think it is hard for folks to respond here because you are asking for so much input.  What I would do if I were you, is search through the forum and then find relevant threads and ask questions.  A lot of what you are asking is distributed throughout the forum in one build or another.
