I'm in Germany and have access to these cranks. I'll let know of the results.

Please do!

Vendors / GB / [Group Buy. M47 crankshaft] Check interest

I'm having a hard time finding the information I saw last year before I put this project on hold.  I think the m47n has a completely different oil pump setup and much shorter crank snout.  I haven't seen any builds able to use the m47n crank yet, but I could be wrong.

Anybody have any other leads on a crank?  The dealership can get me one, but I don't like their price of $1200.  Plus a $100 core charge since I don't have an m47 crank to return.  Plus tax.

The crankshaft I found ended up being from an m47n engine.  Any chance of this thread being brought back to life?

Just throwing it out there that I too am interested (currently sitting on the money, will only spend it on the crank or pistons if I find a good deal on them).  Working on getting one from another source at the moment. If one from Portugal comes in around the same price before/if this one comes through, count me in for the group buy.

Engine + Driveline / M42 rebuild and upgrade help
« on: September 23, 2010, 01:14:58 PM »
I know it's only a $15 difference, but VAC's ARP main studs for the m42 are $164.95.  Just so you're not caught off guard later on.

I just dropped an m42 block and crank off at the machine shop to be magnafluxed.  I'm hoping they will be good for the rebuild I'm planning.

I hope this isn't really thread jacking, but I wanted to ask about this reply because it's something that hadn't crossed my mind:

when getting the block decked, you will need to include you upper timing cover.

Do you mean include the lower timing cover when getting the block decked?  And if I have to deck the head, I'm assuming i would have to include the upper timing cover?

Good luck with the rebuild!

as the title states, the oil light is constantly on and the temp gauge gives no reading.  the car runs and drives fine.  fixed the rough idle.

here's the build up to it:

did an oil change.  no problem there.  saw all the vacuum lines were cracked and decided to delete the mess under the intake.  i unplugged the sensors from the black box they go to so i could get underneath everything to clean all the gunk.

after reassembling, those sensors are not giving a reading.  i triple checked the oil, and it is just under the full mark on the dipstick.  i tried unplugging and replugging them in, but nothing.  the CEL doesn't even come on.  well, it did for a few seconds, but turned off and hasn't been on since.

any advice for an e30 newb?

germanautoparts.com has a decent selection and pretty good pricing from what i've seen looked up so far.  they just started carrying a lot more bmw parts than i remember from last year.  i've used them a lot for vw parts over the past few years.

3m super 90.  it's awesome stuff, just make sure the surfaces are clean and let it set for a day or so before putting it up.
