Engine management / e30 318is ECU Serial Number
« on: September 19, 2016, 03:57:05 AM »
Hi,

New to this forum so bear with me. I am currently rebuilding an e36 m42 with the valve cover that has the crankcase ventilation at the front, e30 intake and wiring and now I am in search of an e30 m42 ecu. The issue is that I encountered a lot of ebay ads saying that it was removed from an e30 m42 then saying it was on a 318i or furthermore 318i auto. can someone tell me the exact bosch serial number of this unit? is it 0 261 200 175?

Thanks

You can't use the e30 valve springs with e36 valves.
6mm e36
7 mm e30

Unless you get new retainers collets and that top bit can't remember it's name at the moment.
All have to work together.

As far as loom goes match to inlet manifold or your tuning.
But m44 maf is technically the best but then your tuning. Not many can tune the m44.
There are 6mm retainers from vac to adapt to double springs from the 7mm ones.. Didn't get the m44 bit though..

Hi, my M42 takes 7.5K since 6 years without problem. Even with a reprog the Pmax is still at 6.4K.
You will have to change the oil carter to put it in your E30.

Are you running everything stock? And what m42 variant? e30 or e36?
So increasing the limiter to 7.5 and tuning it accordingly won't increase high end hp?

Engine + Driveline / e36 vs e30 m42 valve springs
« on: June 10, 2016, 01:21:35 PM »
Hi guys,
I'm new to the forum so please bear with me. So I bought a 92 m42 off an e36 and would like to fit it in my e30. I would like to flow the head to achieve a higher compression and maybe even port it. I would also like to raise the limiter to 7.5k once tuning the engine. So my questions are:
1) should I opt for a safer 7k or is the engine capable of 7.5k with stock internals?
2) being an e36 engine should I swap to the e30 double valve spring setup or the e36 ones will be suitable as well?
3) should I get an e36 loom and ecu or the e30 one?
4) What other mods should I go after to increase horsepower whilst keeping stock internals?
Ps: the engine will be running stock internals with an e30 intake and exhaust manifold and ARP headstuds.

ANY input is highly appreciated :)

Thanks!
