Problem is that the all sensors are on the motor and I swapped motors.  So essentially different sensors, same issue.

I've got an M42 swapped into a 1874 2002tii.  It runs fine when cold, but when it gets hot after running hard for 30-60 minutes it feels like it hits a rev limiter at 4000-5000rpm and get worse if I continue to drive it,  If I let the car rest for a bit and cool off, it is fine again.

I've swapped the ECU, Coil Packs, AFM/MAF, and even the entire motor with engine wiring harness.

I'm pretty sure it is electrical since it only happens when it is hot.  Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks!

Don't let a fricken Jeep beat an E30 318is!

The Duct Tape Motorsports E30 318is and M42 powered 2002tii is up against Team Petty Cash Jeep in the March Crapness on The Rusty Hub and its a battle and the Jeep is currently winning.  The BMW should win by a landslide!  :)

Engine + Driveline / Installing E36 M42 into E30?
« on: June 22, 2012, 01:15:50 PM »
What is different on the E36 M42 from the E30 M42.  I'm sure the wiring harness is different, but anything else?
What is required to swap an E36 M42 into an E30, other than swapping the engine harness?

Is swapping the engine harness just that easy, or are there any gotchas?

Thanks.

I blew up a motor in the Duct Tape Motorsports 24 Hours of LeMons E30 318is at the BMW Club event on Mon.  Was able to swap in my spare M42, but am now looking for a replacement spare M42.  So if you guys could keep a look out for an M42 for sale and let me know, I'd really appreciate it.  If you have one you can sell, even better!  :)
Thanks.

« on: June 06, 2011, 12:21:31 PM »
The M20 guys that track their cars recommend getting a crank scraper. Is it needed for the M42?
What is the benifit?

Engine + Driveline / M42 single mass VS M20 single mass conversion
« on: April 25, 2011, 09:15:15 AM »
For some reason I cannot find any reference to a E21 or E30 323i.  Does anyone know the part number is for the 323i flywheel?  Or better yet, a link to one I can buy in the US.

Is this in reference to a E30 323i or E21 & I'm guessing either way its still the same 323i TOB? As for the clutch does it have to be for a 323 or could a 325 clutch be used as im guessing the 323i has single mass where as the 325 has dual so clutchs would not be interchangeable?

I cannot find any reference to a E21 or E30 323i at Pelican or RockAuto.  Does anyone have the part number for the lighter 323i flywheel?  Is it available in the states?

Couple of points of clarification.  I have a 1991 E30 318is.  I want to put in an aftermarket lightweight flywheel and clutch.
In order to do the conversion do I need:
1) 323i or 325i throw out bearing?
2) 12x22mm or 12x28mm Flywheel bolts?
3) Longer slave cylinder rod or stock M42 slave cylinder rod?
4) Which side does the spacer go on (closest to engine or tranny)?
5) Any other parts needed other than 325 starter pinion gear?
6) Is there a writeup on swapping the starter pinion gear?  It looks anything but straight forward.
7) What is the part number for the pinion gear?

What's the feeedback?  Have you installed them yet?  Do those injectors from Motorman fit and work correctly.  Any leaks?

Would the BimmerWorld E30 325i JB Lightweight flywheel and Clutchmasters clutch work?  It's $750 for both.  How much lighter is the JB lightweight flywheel?

I cannot for the life of me figure out what part number is really the one that works with no modification, no missing clips, no washers, etc.

Can someone just go here and link to the correct page with the fuel injector that will work with a stock or slightly modded M42.

http://www.fuelinjector.citymaker.com (cheapest rebuilt injectors around).
