Welcome to the Club...nice to meet you.  I suspect you might be the only Portuguese on the forum, so it's doubly nice to have you here.

At least, he is the second one!:D Bem vindo amigo!!!

It wasn't very practical, nor reliable, for a young sailor with a wife and newborn baby girl. I think the wife wisely made him get rid of it.

I have never had any reliability issues with it and I suppose it is as reliable as any M3, with the advantage that, apart from engine and gear box, everything else is just a normal E30 (meaning it is easy to get parts for it). Driving around town with that dog-leg gearbox is just a nightmare!!!

Mine is a M30 but I am not sure if it runs on a Motronic injection: I bellieve that this came out in 87/88 and my car is an 86...

Thanks Dave! really a complete insite on the work!

So, the fact that US and EU cars have different front grilles will not affect its installation, correct?

I notice that you've had a E24.... I also have a 86 635CSi (Euro Spec).... Great cars!

There was another "IS" that the article doesn't mention: the Portugal and Italy only 320IS.

It was a 325is chassis with a 2.0liter S14 (M3) engine! It gave out 192bhp!!!

I had one, but on a real world usage basis, the 318is is much more fun and confortable!

Engine + Driveline / DISA or no DISA
« on: February 19, 2013, 01:46:42 PM »
Hi everyone!

The other day I tried out a E36 18IS and it felt really stronger on the lower part of the rev range; it made cruising a lot smoother and probably, a lot cheaper on gas!:... Would this be the effect of DISA or/and final drive ratio?

Also, has anyone tried to install the DISA system in a E30? I have seen here references as it would not fit under the hood... is this a fact? Thanks guys!

BTW, fabulous forum!!! I am now back working on my 18IS and this forum will be a true "Library of Alexandria"!!!

Member Profiles / Just finished restoring it!
« on: August 26, 2009, 02:20:53 PM »
Here's my 1991 318IS E30 US spec.

Just finished restoring it (there are minor things still to improve but  winter is comming...) and I think that I managed quite a good result.

All the best and thanks to all the guys from the forum who helped me in the project.

There's a picture that shows how teh car looked when I bought it (although it does do justice to the apalling condition of the paint).

Interior / E30 Radio Code

Thanks! ...But $25 just looks a bit over-priced?!?!

Before I have to get my wallet out, does anybody else have any other suggestion?

Interior / E30 Radio Code
« on: August 18, 2009, 03:40:06 AM »
I've just finished restauring my US spec 318IS but now I've noticed that I haven't got the code for the original radio and can't make it work.

I've tryed asking BMW (here in Portugal) who supposely asked Germany for the code but they didn't had any information on this radio (maybe because it's a US Spec car). What is odd on this radio is the fact that there is absolutely no information on who supplies it (Blaupunk, Phillips, etc.) and no model (Bavaria, Casablanca, etc.). Just 'BMW'!

Can any of you guys help me out here? I know some people have access to code generator programs...

Here are the details:
Radio part n. 88 88 1 600 175
Radio Serial n. F90657944C

Thanks!

Regards, Bruno.
