M42 Reference / weight difference in sunroof?
« on: December 28, 2011, 06:12:41 PM »
well you can simply yank the whole mechanism out and weld the sunroof to the rest of the roof... ive also seen ebay blank panels that they sell just for this type of mod even in carbon fiber...

compared to M20 cars, that most E30 people never get to drive one & make comments based on assumptions.

i went to my first BMW meet that one of the guys hosted on R3V this past Saturday and this guy in a E36 M3 has found new respect towards the M42 as when i saw my car he was intrigued of how it looked and how it sound when i took it for a test drive as i did his he said that he the power it put out and was surprised that it pushed him back in his seat as he has heard that these motors dont put out alot of horsepower... i told him yes and no cause not alot of ppl will dish the money out for a MM motor as i have most would just go turbo or swap... i wanted to keep a N/A M42 and i have sometime a few have as well

yea i agree with you dave, theres some jap motors out there that are good and the sr20 is one of them and so the 2jz from toyota, as for Hondas im done with them, did so much with them before my BMW and no matter how you do them they all end up sounding like annoying flies or vacuums and by the end of the day its still a honda... with nissan at least you get some respect and power from those 4 bangers and sound like a beast if done right ... i think my most fav jap motor would have to be the mazda Rx motors... their rotorary power can handle alot and the sound incredible... i had a 04' RX-8 turbo and it was like heaven on wheels until some drunk driver hit me and total my car only had it for less than a yr too so hated that guy who hit me cause he also didnt stop and just took off... yes our M42 may be considered "toys" but im happy with that because i spent the extra money to make other drivers think twice before they pull up next to me... plus we dont HAVE to swap motor for more power and loos the weight ratio we'll just add a good turbo and we are good... you see those type of builds on this forum more than on any other forum

I'm a newcomer to the whole forum deal and I definitely noticed the maturity level of m42club while I was going through google for m42 info (compared to r3v at least and that's not saying that that isn't a great information base itself). I'm loving this forum so far and no one hates on me for not knowing anything! On the contrary, I get nothing but awesome help.

well you most defintely get more info here bout the M42 as you would in R3V..
as a matter a fact if seen threads that has been copies from here and posted over there or similiar ones.... they mostly into the swaps to S52, LS-1, and jap motors... not to say it would be nice to have a good motor combo but respect each other in their build and dont put down anyone cause their e30 dont fit your eyes....

LOL...

R3v can get a little juvenile, but they post some good stuff.  Wish they'd encourage forum mods to ban & delete a lot more posts over there.  I guess it's par for the course...e30's are a great first car; cheap & fun & cool.  It's great that they don't take a Ph.D. or a lot of expensive tools to fix.  Not that many of those noobs should be twisting wrenches, but you have to start somewhere (I beat a bunch of cars to death while I was learning).

Though a lot of good threads are hard to read...especially if two or three wannabes have to start WWIII about JDM ricer junk.  Easy to talk smack staring into their parent's computer, eh?  They can flame each other's rims in hell for all I care.  All the Pep Boys junk on earth won't slow that crusher down.

yes im begining to see that now on R3V.. its funny cause only a few welcomed me in and the rest compliments me on my engine bay then tells me to get rid of the ebay stuff.... what ebay stuff its only headlights and tails everything else is from DTM fiberwerks just because they have an account on ebay doesnt mean i bought it there lol and and the complaints about angel eyes all against it so funny

its not your fault hitchcock but not to be rude but i wont sit around and wait to get approved... ive read some of the threads there and they seem to not have alot of love for the M42... im starting to see that a little in R3V but they are also quick at judging as for 80% of the members are totally against halos or angel lights as for ive always liked them and i think its a BMW trademark... at of all the forums i like M42club cause not all ppl here are dicks unlike all the other forums... but it doesnt hurt to jump to other forums for ideas and info

i agree with the 2 of you i love this forum and dave is a big help but just wanted to extend my ideas with what others have done with their e30s... i also have an account with R3V and they seem to be "nice" but my first start was this forum and i learned alot from here so my true loyalty will always be M42club.....

Yours looks a lot nicer than mine does...that CAI really cleans things up.

ha ha thanks i wouldnt have gotten it with out your recommendation.. i got the cai from Kmotors on this forum a while back ago but i think im gonna switch to a simota style carbon intake.. i like it great product for the $$ but i also like the simota style as well... i used some quick detailer spray to clean the hoses after also it took a while to get the hoses on since that little plastic piece from the brake booster to the engine was a pita to remove the hoses that i broke it in half luckily it broke in the right spot that crazy glue worked...
