Engine + Driveline / Hello, and a question about false "rev limit" on M44
« on: February 19, 2009, 04:09:59 PM »
This happens when car ECU goes to safe mode..

It changes the AFR,makes the engine to work rich and limits revs to 5500..

Same thing happened when i changed my muffler for some reason

Reseting fault codes works only for a limited time, than ECU goes to safe mode again..

MAF sensor would  be my starting point if i were in your shoes..

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / Best place for Water Temp sensor (M44)

Yes it helped a lot..

After serious thinking, i decided to take the water temp reading from the same place which the radiator temp switch sits..

It was the easy way,i know.. But i couldnt take the risk of having an air bubble in the engine block because of a lousy water temp sensor..

Throttle heating plumbing was used for the watercooling of the turbo..

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / Best place for Water Temp sensor (M44)

Hi,

I nearly finished my turbo project but as i was putting everything back to its places, i couldnt find anywhere to put the water temp sensor for my DEFIs..

Every other sonsors are in their places (fuel press, oil press, oil temp,EGT,boost..) but i couldnt find anywhere for the water temp..

Now i know there are 2 water sensors in the factory setup (one in the front side of the block and the other is on the radiator) and i dont want to mess with them..

My goal is to have the iminent water temperature, not the cooled off water temp in the radiator or the hot water temp in the return pipes, so i need to find a place and drilling the block is not prefered :D ..

Any suggestions??

Thanks

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / M47 crank into M44 turbo..

I know.. going custom is expensive but what else can i do for a strong internals.. I've been quoted around USD2000 for pauter rods and coated JE pistons with ARP hardware and etc.. but i think this combination is strong enough for 600+ hps and thats more than enough for me..

Do u have a order sheet that the pistons measurements writen on it for your custom pistons from wiseco? if u do, could u take a picture of it for me please?..

pictures will be really appriciated..

Same 100 octane Vpower is sold here too and my plan for those HPs is some water or alcohol mix injection.. although, with good mapping, many of my friends says its possible without injection..

What kind of turbo do u have there? 2.3 bars is very impressive..

My garrett GT3082R is rated 600hp+ around 1.9-2.0 bars of boost but those hp s seem too far away right now..

if its done by just moving the sensor wheel from m44 crank to m47, than it should be easy for my mechanic..

for now, my 3rd rod bearing is little loose when you hold and shake it and this kinda scares me..

Thanks again in advance for both pictures and calculations..

Thanks for the posts..

You need crank from e46 320d with 88mm stroke , and  135mm long rods ,forged pistons on 85mm diameter or 86mm made for m42/m44 ,3mm cometic gasket . I plan to make same engine with forged wossner pistons on 85mm made for m42/m44 their geometry is like stock NA pistons
My m42 block is rebored to 85mm diameter with 0,1mm tickness between pistons and cilinders ,use rod bearings from 320d with sign
sputter on them you must use also motul oil 20W60 lemans.

Actually, i know which cars has this crank but what i need is the numbers or writings that carved on the crank.. My parts guy claims he has one but we both dont know if its the right one..

What i understand from your post is to go with the custom rods (135mm) and get all the other stuff "off the shelf"..

By the way, what will be the CR on this setup? I have kinda big turbo for this engine and I need a 9.1-9.2 CR in order to spool up from lower revs..

he can move snsor in frond of the crank and can use wheel from m42 this mode is not that hard

Is there a thread about this? Can you explain this a litle more please?

Hello all,

I really dont know if is this the right place to open up this thread but here it goes..

I nearly finished turboing my m44 equiped '96 Z3 with all stock internals, neukin bottom mount mani,Tial 44mm external wastegate,HKS bov, Garrett GT3082R, 750cc RC injectors, AEM FI/C, Yonaka Motorsport intercooler,HKS fuel regulator, all custom piping, HKS carbon Ti muffler, custom clutch, etc..

I'm hoping the internals will last until i got all the parts with minimal boost (6-7 psi)..

My goal is to have a daily driveable with around 450-500hp on FW, but to reach this i need all forged internals with a M47 88mm crank..

My questions are..

1) Is there any marks, numbers or writings on the m47 crank that i could easily spot when buying?

2) I'm planning to go with pauter rods with JE pistons but just one of them must be made custom in order to reduce the cost, which one? I mean, do i have to change the lenght of the rods or pistons (not both) for the m47 crank? Specs please..

3)Is this a good setup? I mean are all parts for this engine are easy to find or am i going to suffer when searching for cams, etc..?

by the way, sorry for my bad english..

Thanks

-Ahmet
