Engine + Driveline / Small valve stem E36 head...
« on: December 09, 2013, 03:24:56 PM »
Hi guys,

I'm having my race engine refreshed at the moment. All my exhaust valves were bent on the head I have fitted so have taken a set from a spare head. I have also discovered that one of the heads I have has the valves with the smaller stems. I'm thinking that as an upgrade for next winter I'd like to save up and get some proper head work done. Is there any advantage to using the head with the smaller valve stems, to with help flow (less of an obstruction) or is there little difference or gain to be had?

TIA

Did you get yours working with the standard studs then? Seems impossible to me? Going to have some longer ones made.

I'm glad it's not just me then! Seems they have got their dimensions wrong when making them. The centre stud needs to be at least an inch longer to get even a K-nut on there.

Vorshlag have proved to be utterly useless. I have emailed all the email addresses available, Facebook, twitter, the lot and no response. VERY ANNOYING!

Is any one using Vorshlag engine mounts? If so you you have pictures of them installed on an E30?

I have emailed them but they seem to not give a toss and not email me back so calling on you lovely people :)

I have a set but I'm not entirely sure they're correct.

Many thanks

Oh my I forgot about this! I sold the charger stuff a little over a year ago now as costs were rising and I had a change of heart. I've been rebuilding the car to UK competition regulations.

Been doing a diary here: http://www.visionracingdevelopments.co.uk/e30racecar.php

The front of the car will sit high as the M42 isn't as heavy as the M20. Negative rake = understeer.

Recon you were very lucky it didn't catch the corner of the valves and mash up them up.

Suspension / strut brace?
« on: February 25, 2012, 01:03:40 PM »
I used to have a Sparco one but it didn't fit so I had to move it on. I then had an Ultra-racing one which did fit, but it was VERY close and I know people who had them but they didn't fit. I expect that one fitted because my engine mounts were buggered. Only bad thing about it was the fact the holes were slotted so it could move if under enough force, which is hardly desirable for a strut brace.

The M42 manifold in the E30 sits quite high so it can be hard work finding one that clears it.

It may be worth fitting an aluminium or polly upgraded replacement. You'll never have to change it again and it will add some response to the steering.

I think it's worth doing no matter what you're doing with the car. These are great cars to drive, anything that adds a bit of front end strength can't be a bad thing. If you get one avoid the cheap nasty aluminium ones which are only good for the scrap bin!
