There are no codes unless I unplug the ICV or MAS.

Engine + Driveline / ICV Diagnosis

Thanks for the advise.  I have pretty much replaced the entire fuel system before I got to the injectors.

Replaced:
Fuel Pump
Fuel Filter
Fuel pressure regulator
Fuel related relays
cracked vacuum hoses
Injectors tested and cleaned
Cleaned ICV and throttle body.

I will take the ICV off and check it.  What makes me think it may be an air issue is do to the car running rich. The plugs were wet when I checked them. I think I am just going to try and sell it as is. Im tired of chasing problems.

Engine + Driveline / ICV Diagnosis

Ok, my injectors got blocked by running bad gas after the car sat for a number of years. After getting them cleaned the car starts and runs, but strains to rev up. The best way to describe it is as if something is applying drag on the engine and its straining for power. I replaced the vacume hoses so I don't think it is a vacuum leak. While I had the intake off I cleaned the ICV with carb cleaner. If I start the car up and unplug the ICV the idle goes up to near normal level but still has the same bogging down issue. The car is running very rich and I get a poping sound from the intake when I rev it up. Car has barely the power to get down the road. And no codes come up except when I unplug the ICV.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I have sent the injectors in for testing and cleaning. Hopefully this will solve the problem since no one else seems to have any thoughts

Engine + Driveline / Who has an aluminum flywheel?
« on: January 03, 2009, 03:00:51 PM »
I got one when I burnt up my old flywheel. It imporved throttle responce somewhat and reved quicker, but if it didn't need replaced, there are better performance mods to spend the money on first. I don't remember the exact clutch, but it was a med racing clutch I believe.  The OEM flywheel has springs in it instead of the the clutch having the springs like most cars. The aluminum flywheel I got was unsprung and it made my clutch rattle with the AC on.

Engine + Driveline / e36 Fuel Issues

Ok, I have a 94 318 that has been parked for a couple of years. The fuel pump went out and I replaced it with a used one. It started up again but sputtered when reved and backfired some (exhaust backfire). I tried starting it up again in a week and nothing. The pump was burnt up again. Bought another pump and it is working now but now the car wont even attempt to fire at all. I did drain and flush the tank of the old gas and put in a new fuel filter. I know it has spark because I checked with carb cleaner in the intake and it would fire. I have also replaced the fuel pressure regulator and replaced the plugs which were fouled with dry black residue. The fuel rail has pressure in it. The next step would be the injectors correct? Could water in the old gas have blocked them to the point it will not fire at all? I read something about the cold start injector could be stuck open floding the engine. It looks like a big job to try and get to the injectors? Could it be anything else. Hoses are good too, at from what I can see with the intake on. I am just trying to get it up and running again so I can sell it. Thanks for any help.
