I will paint it with 800c resistant paint, spray with 1400c resistant brake protection spray and heat wrap it.

so I redid the manifold, this is how it came out:


dis is how it looks fitted to head.

now it is further away from valve cover. seperated by an air gap of about an inch. However now it barely touches frame rail which is covered in heat shield.
We'll se how that goes If it will cause any problems I will have to cut out that piece and weld in a new material making an indent for the runner !

well i just finished my turbo manifold that should accomplish main drawbecks in e36 chassis- equal lenght, bottom mount, gravity drain, will post pics soon in my humble WTF topic of a build
I say should because gravity drain is not tested yet but CHRA being higher than the oil level in sump makes me think it will be allright
I agree that rotating engine, cutting shock towers, etc. is hardly justifiable.

Hi there!! Nice work! Glad to see you went equal length! Wondering if you have the room to make an aluminum spacer between the block and header? You could machine it out of .250 soft aluminum then there would be no need for exhaust gaskets. It will put you out 1/4 in. After the beautiful work you did making it equal, it would be a shame to have to cut it up!!! Just a thought? ... Skid

I actually made an unequal first:

Then I thought- well there is a possibility for equal one, so I made it.
However idea about the alu gasket won't work because on the other side the clearance to frame rail (is this how you call it?) is already tight.

this is after I made a cut and whacked it with a hammer to get a really nice bowl shape to my surprise.
But i think that the best decision would be to redo the whole manifold and do it right this time. Hopefully

Hi everyone,
I am currently in the middle of m42 turbo build in e36 chassis.
I will post the details when it is rolling or sooner depending on your curiousity.

For now I just wanted your opinion/experience:
I am making custom bottom mount turbo manifold. It's equal lenght from mild steel steam pipe 38mm ID.
The question is- looking at the picture- do you think it would start to melt the valve cover gasket (take into account it would be heat wrapped and reflect-a-gold would be taped on the valve cover/gasket)
I am thinking about moving that runner about 1-2 cm further from the head, but doubt it would make world of a difference !?
