Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / SC M42B21 engine
« on: October 24, 2009, 10:26:57 AM »
s14b25 with only alpha n makes 270hp??? i'm not so sure about that... for me cheapest solutions for making over 200hp are
1) 6 cyl swap - but for getting more than stock power is very expensive
2) turbocharge M42 - no limits, you start from 200hp with stock engine and 1000$ and so on
3) tuned S14 - engine is expensive, every shit to puts on is more expensive, every part costs twice only for the M sign

so if you wanna leave the car light, wanna have a race engine etc a tuned m42 is far bad than an s14.... and for getting more than 300hp is probably the cheapest solution

i used an iron brush, then acetone, and then painted with high temperature paint. Remember to buy new gasket if yours is old

Engine + Driveline / another (different?) hot start problem
« on: October 03, 2009, 03:46:41 AM »
the fpr regulates the pressure in the fuel rail, as the manifold vacuum increases, the fuel pressure in the rail is increased too. this is done for providing sufficient fuel to the injectors at all rpms, because higher the rpm are, more fuel is injected and lower the pressure will get in the rail. so if you have problems with it maybe your car runs too much rich and cannot start, when you disconnect it the pressure falls and the fuel injected is nearly correct

How-To's / M42 mass air flow sensoe delete?
« on: September 17, 2009, 11:53:15 AM »
no , you can leave the stock ignition working while the carbs control injection (i think it work)

you only have to disconnect the injectors and put on the carbs

Engine + Driveline / Ebay exhaust possibilty
« on: September 17, 2009, 11:50:34 AM »
no but watching how's it made i think it's a lot louder! for using it you only have to cut off your silencer and make a 2" to 2.5" adapter

How-To's / M42 mass air flow sensoe delete?
« on: September 16, 2009, 05:04:25 PM »
if you wanna delete it change engine! M44 don't have it so big! eventually you can put away all the electronic management and put on 4 motorcycle carbs

v8 is the best! make it louder as possibile! if i weren't here in italy where if you change anything on your car you risk going in prison i will have for sure did it!

Engine + Driveline / Why does my e30 m42 sound like a diesel engine?
« on: September 14, 2009, 06:57:50 AM »
that sound is because the chain tensioner is empty of oil and until the oil gets inside and make pressure the chain is free to move and cause that noise.

i have a problem like yours, car seems running like disel at idle but after running a lot and high rpms the problem disappear, i think it's probably a combination of rich carburation (i have turned the screw on the maf), used plugs and maybe throttle heating deleting which cause bad combustion...

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / Turbo big enough for my M42?
« on: August 20, 2009, 03:53:33 PM »
you say it's a t04e with t03 flange, so i think it's a t04e/t03... like bear says it's good for at least 10psi, under you will have an enormous lag! that is a turbine good for a 2500cc with 300hp not for a tiny 1.8 for making 190hp!

if one of the hoses to the radiator is cold and the engine is hot your thermostat isn't open!

How-To's / which do I have

I'd say they exist but they're not that common :)

confirmed, in italy i never saw 1. 520i e34 are very common

for the 318is, obviously with 140hp on 1250kg it's quite slow, but with few modifies you can get 150-155hp and it starts to be fun, turbocharging it like danny did you can get 200hp cheapy and not dangerous!
