Suspension / rally or offroad suspension?
« on: February 23, 2009, 09:33:09 AM »
took my bimmer to the dealer the other day and they say i need to overhaul my whole suspension. i live in northern michigan whair paved roads are few. i dont think that a streey setup suspension would be my best option. i want to keep my ride heigth and go with a more rally type suspension. what is out there for a more offroad tall suspension option.

i think i might have a temp sensor problem. the only time it even gets close to the half way mark is if it idles for like 20 min or i have to rag on it in 1st to get up my driveway. i baught one of those diagnostic computers from pellican and it doesnt seem to work. i havent had time to call there service center yet but it wont clear my oil lights, find any codes or clear any codes..... yet.  and i got the heated mirrors and back window, if it has heated locks they sure dont work to great. i wont lock it anymore for if i do i have to sit there with a lighter on my key for ever to get them warm enuff to unlock. one more thing is that i have been noticeing more wheel hop. like when i take off and its slippery the tires will hop if there not going much faster than the car and will hop again when they start to come back into traction. any ideas why?

im right in michigans snow belt, and my road is one of the last in the county to get plowed. my bimmer gets through more snow than i ever thaught it would. does great with cold starts too. but i might have a problem with my cooling system, it never seems to get past the blue on the temp gague. well unless im running in secondt gear. whair do yours usually run at in the winter?

yes...
i understand your appendage theory. this is my first stick and it took me a day er 2 to figure it out but after that i dont even need a tack nemore. i put a louder exhaust on to hear it better but thats about it.
i have a 95 318is thats hellrot red and has seat warmers premium sound lsd and the window sticker sayz premium package so that might be all of it  i think.
i havent sceen very many hellrot bmw's. how rare are the 4's with the goodies? maby i got a better deal than i thaught for 2200 with 167000. well it still needs prolly a grand er 2 until its mint. front suspension paint motor mount quarter paanel bunch of little stuff.

Interior / Post up your audio upgrades (speakers, amps, head units, etc)!
« on: January 06, 2009, 02:10:42 PM »
i got a dual headunit with 2 step motorized faceplate, bluetooth reception, and it controols my ipod like a harddrive. i got a 1320 watt jl audio 6 channel amp in the trunk. and i ordered rockford fosgate 5.25/1.1 power series mid and tweeter and rockford 3.5's for the bottom door holes.
dont have enuff money for subs yet but i  allready have a custom box drawn up. it perfectly fits 2 rockford 12" p3's in a bandpass mated with 3 rockford p2 10's in a devided ported box. it took me a long time playing with numbers and volumes to get it to fit.im pretty shure that would be overkill but i love loud. i can put the blueprints up if anyone is interested.

what is the major difference between the two? they both have the same engine. the e36 might be a little bigger, but does the e30 have all the neat gadgets like seatwarmers like the e36? is there really any difference in handleing? most of the front suspension is the same. the e36 has the multi point rear, i dont really know what the e30 has in the back. the 5 point was supposed to be a major upgrade.

im not knockin alll e30 guys, just want to know what im missing (if anything)

Engine + Driveline / sickly e36 with phantom cel fault code

oh ya and now the 1238 code is gone and replaced by 1222. lambda? something about bad fuel ratio. could that be from that sensor?

i havent replaced the wires or coils. they seem to work fine. i put spark testers between the plug and the wire on all cylinders and they were fireing fine. im thinking that if my cats were heating up too much or causeing too much backpressure that the o2 sensor on the pipe could have burnt up. and i need to change/clean the plugs again, one cylinder doesnt fire 75% of the time. can i just sprat the sensors down with electronic contact cleaner and maby revive them a bit?

i went to advanced auto, they supposedly have obd computers for all cars, well not e36's. they siad that it is probabally my cats. so i choped off my exhaust and had a new exhaust from the hedder back profesionaly built and installed (122.69). sounds really good when it is hitting on all cylinders. still didnt fix it. i would like to rebuild the ecu with new sensors. does anyone know whair i can buy all of or most of the sensors at 1 time and get a pretty good deal?

Engine + Driveline / rebuild potential
« on: December 16, 2008, 07:52:05 AM »
im not really planning to ues the stock internals. im going to completely rebuild it from crank bearings to throttle body. might as well go all out when i do it, its still in the planning stage. i think i saw something about m3 injectors being a good upgrade on the m42. true? definately going to need bigger injectors.

ya the code might be the abs because the light is on and it doesnt work. i fixed the vacume and put new plugs in it and ive been to 2 more shops. still no1 with a computer. my exhaust seemed like it was louder and somethiong in it would rattly when it was revved up. advanced auto in alpena told me it was probabally the cat's. looks like a good oppertunity to improve preformane and maby fix it at the same time. so yesterday i took the exhaust off, today im going and getting a pipe bent up for me. im not shure what i need for a muffler. do they require backpressure or is an open exhaust enough? you can get away with stuff like that whair i live
