Engine management / Camshaft Position Sensor

Greetings all! Is the Camshaft Position sensor from the m42 and the m44 the same? Are they interchangeable? I know these engine are close kin; but i'm hoping they can be the same

Engine + Driveline / m42 Engine ticking

I have a "ticking" in my engine like tappets needing adjustment, then i have an engine cackle, like a ping ...This car was a Lazarus that I'm resuscitating after a terrible crash it had where the oil sump was even busted. If the Engine ran out of oil at that occasion would it affect the Cam driveline? or even coz it to sound as if tappets need adjustment?

Thank you so much for your post! It is really helping me with my e30 project . I basically bought a car with the same issue of neglect, poor body work and accident all rolled into one (1991 E30 318is) So i will use ur resto as a guide to help me.  Thank u again
