Engine + Driveline / LSD and Tranny Question
« on: December 13, 2008, 08:50:40 AM »
Was kind of looking for a more specific location than on the tranny, LOL. Vehicle speed sensor make sense. Then how do you determine if you have a Torque Sensing Differential?

Thanks

Engine + Driveline / LSD and Tranny Question

Ok guys I looked Through the archives to find answers but still have a couple Questions.

1. My diff tag reads S 4.10  8611

The S means LSD, 4.10 Gearing but what does the 8611 mean? I only ask because my diff has a electronic sensor on the back of the housing. Is this the Torque Sensing Version?

2. Is the Tranny tag on the Transmition or Cross Member because I seen Both in the archive. Does anyone have a Picture of were and what it looks like so I'am not just over looking it?

Thank You for The Info. This Site is very Helpfull. :D

Ok guys I’m new to the BMW. But I am mechanically inclined. But for the life of me I have not been able to identify a part. I got A 1991 318 IS with the M42 engine(Of Course) from a guy for cheap because he hit a Rock going up a washed out drive way and cracked the oil pan. He said he cracked the block also but upon inspection the blocks looks ok but the piece between the block and oil pan is what is cracked does anyone know what it is call or is it really part of the block?

Thanks, Joshua

This site is extremely Helpful :D
