Engine + Driveline / coolant leak - could it be profile gasket
« on: March 28, 2011, 01:16:02 PM »
Sorry if this is a duplicate post.  I tried last night to post, but did not see it under the engine – driveline section.

Anyone had their timing cover profile gasket blow again after it was replaced under dealer warranty?

On my 1991 M42 I have a very slow coolant leak that is dripping off one of the lower bolt of the A/C mounting bracket only after running the car.  No pressure it does not leak.

I have yet to pull the A/C pump and bracket off, however I am thinking that it is the profile gasket.  The timing cover profile gasket was changed under warranty at 50,000 miles and the car is now sitting with 185,000 miles.

My leak is really slow and not as bad as in this picture, but I found this post – second picture in this post that is similar.  I have only one drop coming off the middle A/C bracket mounting bolt http://www.m42club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12117&highlight=profile+gasket

Based on the above post it is leading me to believe it is this profile gasket failing.

Anyone have the profile case fail a second time or a coolant leak coming from under the A/C?

Engine + Driveline / coolant leak - profile gasket?

Anyone have to replace their timing cover profile gasket a second time?

On my 1991 M42 I have a slow coolant leak that is dripping off one of the lower bolts of the A/C mounting bracket.  It is hard to tell exactly where it is coming from as I have yet to pull the A/C pump and bracket off.  However I am thinking that it is the profile gasket.  The timing cover profile gasket on my car was changed by the dealer while under warranty at 50,000 miles over 15 years ago.  The car is now sitting at 186,000 miles.

My leak is really slow and not as bad as in the second picture of the post at the link below:

Based on this post information it is leading me to believe my problem is the profile gasket is starting to go.

Engine + Driveline / low idel
« on: February 21, 2010, 07:51:55 PM »
I have a 91 is that has a similar low/stalling idel.  My son now drives the car so I have not been able to isolate the problem.  I believe it is from a vaccum leak.  Does you check engine light come on?  His does, but when I test drive it, I am not always able to duplicate the idle problem.  I have all the new vaccum hoses, but just have not had time to replace these original hoses.  Most of the vaccum hoses are under or hiding under the intake so hard to detect where the vaccum leak might be.
