Ithink that is normal, some of the pressure willl jsut come around the pistons into the carter, you need an oil catch tank, and some breather, where did you conect the breather hose, befor or after the turbo, on the intake?

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / MM pulse chamber intake manifold
« on: August 02, 2010, 02:46:32 AM »
I'm interested in using this on my project engine, but i want to mount ITBs on the lower part of the intake. I suppose this will still work for me though, or not?

Also how do you guys think would adding Injectors in the pulse chambers for high RPM use work?

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / Has anyone bought this flywheel?

Automatic transmissions have special flywheels and from whot i thin kthey're pretty light, if you want to improve handling of your car, conver to manual IMO

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / Throttle body option
« on: July 31, 2010, 02:57:00 PM »
Oh yeah i tottally forgot, I want to use two, for an ITB conversion, to make it clear.
I think for a single TB the original one is pretty sufficient, and when not a rebore helps, for anything more serious, you'd have to make all new intake anyway. Cosworth BOA/BOB ones are also pretty similar to ther BMW one, and should be a tad bigger...

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / Throttle body option

Hello, I wasn't sure where to post this so i hope this is the right section.
When working on a friends car, i have noticed, that the 2,9 Ford V6, used in European Sierras and Scorpios uses an dual intake plenum and throttle body, so i sourced me one, and took some measurments. The maximum diamater of the TB is 55mm, whereas the diameter of the flap is about 38mm, but it can be bored out as there is enough material on the walls.
The Euro M3 E36 uses 45mm bore which can be achieved pretty easy here.
My plan is to use the lover intake section from the E30 M42 and fit two of these throttle bodies. From the measurements that I've gotten from B318M42W (Thank you very much for that!) The spacing on the intake is about 72mm as on the throttle body its 76mm, also the intake plenum holes are about 43,18mm. So my plan is to instal a shim in the throttle body output and rebore it to 45mm, and port match the intake to it.
Well here are some pics of the throttle body, they can be aquired for about 50USD here in preally good condition, the pictured one is my first one used for measuring. I think it can make an really cheap alternative not exceeding 300bucks in the final...
Mounted on engine:

My piece dissasembled:

The center journal is for both intakes, so i asume i would use it for idling, and on the right side, you can see another journal, which is only for one barrel, that one i want to use for the brake servo.

M42 Reference / Measurments of intake manifold please!
« on: July 30, 2010, 02:01:50 PM »
Hello, I can aquire throttle bodies for dirt cheap to use on my M42 project, they can be bored up to 50mm's.
Could somebody please measure me the lower part of the E30 intake? I need the diameter of the intakes and the spacing between them. I have an E36 engine, so i want to know if i could use the e30 intake part for the conversion or have a new one made up. Thanks!

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / Things to get before i pull my motor?
« on: July 30, 2010, 05:51:57 AM »
As mentioned above, you need to browse around, some prats can be bought, some need to be manufactured. Headers, can be bought on ebay, M50 ones are alot cheaper and can be used after cutting of the last two pipes and blanking it up. Next you need an turbo ofcourse an T3 or T3/T4 with internal wastegate is the best, depending on how much you want to drench it. Next on is some piping and intercooler, then you have to add an oil lube line for the turbo, and have an down pipe made for the turbo, thats the basic steps, as mentioned the stock engine can handle quite alot. So it would maybe be wiser to drive it at some lover boost and rebuilt it correctly and stronger after some time, when you get some more money together as all this isnt much cheeapo!

Really cool, to see the stock engine managment can take it when tuned properly. Thank you very much for your answers. Too bad I'm in Europe, so I can't have it tuned from you :(

General Topics / Just finished my custom fabbed exhaust
« on: July 21, 2010, 05:35:52 AM »
Nice work there, I run a Euro E36 Class II, been fiddling around with exhausts for sime too. When ass-dynoed, the best thing that worked out was the stock E36 End piece, and a custom mad middle piece, no cat and joined together about 12cm behind the headers, the car was really revy, with still nice low end torque and good MPG ratio, without much noise too... Just a little rant :)
