General Topics / Exhaust too loud
« on: April 10, 2017, 11:48:21 PM »
My exhaust is way too loud and I want to make it quiet. Its 2.25 no resonator with just a borla pro xs muffler side piped driver side. Can i get away with just adding a quiet res like the vibrant ultra quiet? Has anyone used this? will this tone it down enough or will i need a new muffler altogether? What set up are you using?

« on: December 22, 2016, 11:11:27 AM »
I've been searching all over the internet (ebay, car-part, Craig'slist) but can't find a medium case 4.10 lsd for a good price. Also will my stock cv-axles bolt up to the bigger diff? Where are some other sites to look? Any advice helps thanks dudes!

so i came across this vid and it got me thinking  ??? https://youtu.be/wjQFwaOLSDI most of the people doing this are using the more powerful inline 6. has anyone built or is building an off road m42 powered tank? i wud think that our engines just don't have enough torque  especially when equiping larger dirt tires 195/75/14 which i can't find or 27x8.5x14 general grabbers like this guy pictured. maybe with a 4.10 lsd it can creep over rough roads? if anyone can post up some links or pix on the matter that wud cool be thanx!

Suspension / z3 rack swap
« on: May 09, 2016, 04:47:41 PM »
so there is no write up that I cud find for a us spec m42 z3 rack swap. my question is do I need to do anything to modify the steering linkage? I have the kit for the spacers on the rack but I don't think I need the other stuff since the linkage is different from other models. is it a direct swap plus the spacers?

ya this has really been a pita for me! so last weekend i pulled the spark plugs and 02 sensor ( which are new) and cleaned them, they did have carbon build up from when i wasnt getting proper fuel pressure due improper installation of the fuel pump. i figure it cant hurt... i also cleared the 1222 code and the car still doesnt want to accelerate in the range of 1-2k every once in a while, it will start to sputter when this happens. i did the stomp test again to see if it wud throw the same code even thought the check engine light never came on and now its storing 1234 code which is speedometer A signal, its the diff speed sensor. from wat i have read this has nothing to do with my intermittent problem. looks like ill source a multi-meter and check all the sensors to see wat i came up with.

so ever since i swapped back over my old afm the car runs a million times better but every now and again it still stumbles. it will idle a bit low or when i try to accelerate from a dead stop it doesnt want to climb the rpms until i put my foot down then it acts fine but it will only do this every once in a while not all the time and it wont throw a check engine light on the dash but if i do the stomp test it saves it in the system 1222. i wonder if its still the afm or maybe something else? :o

so i figured out why my car ran like shit on cold starts but good when it was warm kicking on the 1222 code it was my brand new afm. when i first got my 91 318is the fuel pump went out on me and when i replaced it i forgot to put clamps on the hose. thinking i was having other issues i started becoming a part swap mechanic rather than doing the diagnostic checks like i should. lots of $$$ and 6 months later the car was still having the same  idle issue even after i did the fuel test to figure out that i forgot the clamps. searching on forms and talking to several people led me to do the very most basic things you should always do when trying to diagnose a problem is to check that every thing is with in spec. not thinking to check the new stuff but since i was out of ideas i did and found my new cheap ass ebay afm was crap! luckily i kept my old bosch one and put it back on. the very instant i turned the key it started with out hesitation. the idle was silky smooth and it purred like a kitten before it idled like a muscle car. so moral of the story do the basic checks weather the parts are new or not, take your time disassembling and assembling things back together and always spend the extra money for quality parts and save yourself a lot of money and head aches.

Faulknersprings is a great website! this is exactly what i was looking for thank you so much and for custom springs their prices arent too bad either. now i just need to figure out what would would be a good spring rate for rallying/ auto-x? so im looking at putting together bilstein hds on all 4s with 10" free length springs up front/ 6" fl springs in the rear and 2.5" adj perches all around so i can have it at close to stock height when i want it or lower it for street handling. this is where im got my info for stock m3 spring fl http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=244597 if this doesnt seem rite someone please give me the correct info but it sounds like its in the ball park. if there any other spring companys that can build custom springs at a reasonable price let me know thanks for the help.

yes they are the oem steel bodies ill have to try that trick thanks. ill also have to try the screw driver test too to see if they are ok. the car just has trouble idling om cold starts once its warm its fine even though the check engine light pops up which makes me think it isnt an injector cuz i wud think it wud keep idling like crap weather it was hot or cold.

i want to keep it under $1k shocks must be mono tube and rebuild able. springs im still debating on rates, 200-300 could good for middle of the road. this is going to be a dd and autox/ rallyx. i know auotx and rallyx are polar opposites when it comes to suspension but i wonder if anyone has found a good in between for both... :P i maybe asking for too much but  it cant hurt to ask.

so i have been having no luck what so ever with this code and i figure i would ask you guys who had this and solved it what your solution was? i have just about replaced everything and im about to just start over and check everything again. some one told me when they had this problem it was 1 of their fuel injectors. mine are looking their age plus when i removed the intake manifold to clean i found a lot of black gunk build up around the injectors but none in the engine ports or valves. i tried to remove the injectors from the intake but could not for fear of breaking them, it seems the o-rings welded them to the intake. what would be the best way to remove them with out damaging them since i want to get them refurbed?

Suspension / building your own coilover options
« on: August 02, 2015, 03:49:15 PM »
ive decided i want to build my own coilovers since its cheaper and i dont have the $$$$ to buy hack/ weld a setup. so i want a stock ride height for dd but have the option of lowering it for track/ auto-x. all the springs ive seen so far are around 6" some even shorter if u really want to slam it, the po already hacked off the old spring perch and put in adjustable perches with a 6" spring. i have the perch maxed out and the spring sits in there very loosely which i really dont like. if i ever get air born this means the spring will be tossing all about which cant be good. the solutions i came up with were swapping the spring out for a full length spring which would be around 10" but i cant find any anywhere? I could buy spring helpers which would hold the spring in place but even with the perches maxed it still doesnt sit back at stock height would the helpers help bring it back to stock height? the only thing i can think of for what i want is to have some springs custom made which sounds expensive. I dont even know who could do that? has any one found springs that work for this or has had luck with the helper springs?
