So there's enough material in between cylinders to bore it out to 86mm huh?  It's likely pushing it though.  I'd love to see pics of the block.

here ya go... its metric's M44 2.0L I just bought.

more here...

181 whp sounds excellent - keep what you have, as it is a great set up.

bottom end torque is where its at (!) - dont compromise on that for a few extra hp up on top... IMO

good luck either way though...

you do realize that MM's piston set (in a configuration of your choice) is only about $780... + $120 if you want Molly rings.

shipping would have been inexpensive as well...

just my $.02 :)

Hi! I live in Singapore thus I have to order via their Europe office instead of US one. It cost me 770 Euros so thats around USD993. I emailed Wiseco Europe directly to order the pistons.

unless you trully know wtf you are doing - do yurself a HUGE favor & do NOT port/polish (read: butcher) your own head... you are just looking for trouble. its an exact science  - done with flow benches and such...

also, scroll down this page & read what MM said about porting/polishing (in fact, read the entire thing), as it makes for some interesting material...

& this one regarding 'surface turbulence'...

hi everyone. I'm about to tackle the task of replacing the head gasket on my 91, 318i, because I really miss driving it. I was wondering if anybody has done any head polishing and porting (or any other task that I should do while I'm at it, for that matter) and if so, is it a complicated process? I've seen some guys do it on youtube and it doesn't look hard at all. In fact, I'm more concerned about messing up when putting everything together after replacing the head gasket. I was going to have someone more experienced help me out, but the guy is always too busy for me, like he was going to do it for free....so I said f** it, I'll do it myself. All input or comments welcome.

I understand its an M44, but there is no reason why it shouldn't work on an M42 as well - so I thought you'd find it interesting.
enjoy...

Engine + Driveline / Serious power gain mods... no joke!
« on: February 23, 2009, 06:22:01 AM »
well, the knowledge which I do not posess... LOL :)

very few people made them work properly on M44 & M42s, that I know of (though I'm basing this statement on 318ti.org members mostly - havent really searched m42club.com too much)...

turbo selection, manifold & intercooler piping fabrication + engine management is beyond my realm - but if you got the knowlege, then you are ok... so again, it isn't imossible, just requires knowledge.

What kind of knowledge? I have had several turbo cars, is there anything special a BMW requires to be turboed? I wouldnt be surprised at all.  Im guessing a pricey piggyback.

nothing major to be gained without serious money, unfortunatelly... 2.1L + high flow head + radical cams maybe - but it all costs.

Turbo is your best bet... if you got the knowledge.

yes, I should - you are right. :)

I absolutelly love E30s.. they have a special place in my heart, just like the 87-92 Gti 16Vs.

nice! I'm jealous - but you should consider putting the setup into an E30 .

get it man... that is a steal! I paid 3.3K for mine...

it will enhance any other additional work on your motor... not too much boost & so you do not need any crazy mods like for a turbo (i.e. designed to work with stock internals - stock ecu, etc).

there's a DASC kit on sale in te UK for £600 at the moment on http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/886244.htm

I've not got enough money to buy sadly, too much spent on a 2.0l build
