Well, the fuel pump crapped out on me recently. Partsource gave me a Delphi FE0110 as a direct fit replacement. It specs out the same as the OE, fits perfectly after removing a few bumps and tabs on the bottom, but comes with a GM specific connector for power. Even the GM dealer couldn't find the match, so I had to do neurosurgery with my crappy soldering iron to attach the old leads back on.

Runs like a champ again :)

Anyone know any good junkyards for e30 parts in the GTA or Hamilton? Looking for interior parts (glovebox and shiftboot).

I'd fix the rust in the rear asap :)

Oh, that's the least bad bit of rust. I think she might have terminal rot, and only a year or two to live.

My prognosis is not worth the repair. Probably evidence of a front end accident. Any second opinions?

It sucks living in the rust belt.

So, I thought 91 318is owners were a bit brainwashed by their own car cult. But recently I drank the koolaid and I have to say that you guys were right. This is a great car.

I brought her home about 8 weeks ago for $700 CAD. 300000 kms, third owner. Certified and etested. Once I got her home, closer inspection revealed many new bits under the hood, brand new kyb gas-a-just's, and lots of oily leaks all over my once pristine parking pad.

So far:
Clunk from trunk was a rear shock mount that had the rubber blown completely out by the shock. Paid way too much for new ones at dealer.
The parking brake was dragging a lot. $50 spring kit fixed it.
A power steering leak. PS leakstop seems to have shut it down.
Diff output shafts leaking, Replaced the oil. Might DIY the seals in the spring if I'm feeling brave.
Driver's side door lock won't lock from outside. Key turns, just doesn't lock.
Thermostat stuck open. New t-stat on it's way.
New to me momo shift knob installed today. The old mtech one flies right off, and the leather is half gone.

I bought this expecting to treat it like a beater, but that didn't last long. It's by far the best handling car I've ever owned, and makes me smile when I walk up to it.

Thanks for a terrific community. It sold me on these cars, and has made owning one easy.

These pics manage to hide the rusty side :)

Another Canadian reporting for duty. Bought this rusty bucket for a beater and promptly fell in love with it:

M42 Buyer's Guide / 1991 318is: does it have potential?

Any luck? For that price I'd hope it's squeaky clean.

I'm reliving the excitement of chasing down my 318is through this thread...

Another fellow Canuck here,

I bumped into this seller on my search for a 318is. He seems likeable, but he is definitely a curb crawler. After I couldn't come to a price on another 318is he was selling,  I found my 318is and was lucky enough to buy it before he showed up (seller said he was the next appt.) It was in much better shape than the one you posted, *actually* certified, and only $700.

I didn't get a sleazy vibe off of him, but be warned that he is almost certainly flipping e30's. Don't know if you are going to get the best value for money from him.

Good luck, I've been part of the m42 brotherhood for about 6 weeks now, and it is everything people say it is. You will love it. Mine's got a little less rust than dark_islight's ;), and I was expecting to run it as a beater just like you, but now I'm hooked. When I first skimmed dark_islight's thread, I thought he was crazy, now I think he's completely rational :p
