For Sale / 1991 318iS M42 Engine 123k
« on: December 29, 2014, 01:34:36 PM »
I have an M42 engine that came of my 318iS in very good conditions only has 123k miles. The motor was running perfectly fine. Reason for the sale is due to an upgraded 6 Cylinder and I don't need this one. You can come do a compression check and see for yourself. I'm a BMW enthusiast and will not screw anyone selling a bad motor. It comes with all accessories and any M42 parts I may have around. I took the engine out about 2 weeks ago. Text or email me if you are interested. These engines are getting hard to find. It took me 3 months to source an upper oil pan. I'm only asking $500. Not a penny more/less. Thanks.

I'm told the two motors are basically identical. All auxiliaries are different, though. Intake manifold, wiring harness, EWS system, knock sensors, belt drive, engine mount arms, etc. IIRC the later M42 also went to one coolant temp sender vs. two for the E30.

IMHO swap the stripped block into the E30 - use the E30 intake, wiring harness, belt pulleys, etc. You'll need a pilot bearing for the crank too (automatics don't have a flywheel) and you might as well do the clutch with a non-a/c (single mass) flywheel while you're in there.

So you're saying to basically ditch the 95 318ti head and use just the block, swap the 1991 318is head on the 95' block? Or leave the head and just swap intake manifold?

Engine + Driveline / 1995 318ti Vs. 1991 318is... Just one question!
« on: March 17, 2014, 05:21:40 PM »
Hello,

I bought my 1991 318is a couple of months ago. I know I have the M42 and have done extensive research etc. My question is, will the M42 of a 1995 318ti bolt to the 1991 318is Getrag 240? Any harness changes? The 1995 318ti engine is automatic by the way. Im waiting on this to be answered to make my purchase. Thanks a ton.

The exhaust is an aftermarket, not sure of brand. The spoiler I believe is from the E30 M3, I might be wrong though.

Just bought this gem today. No rust ANYWHERE ON THE BODY and has the original M42. It needs a few things but its an awesome conditions. This is my first post here in this forum. I have a built 2004 Subaru STi, but wanted something different and fun. Overall looking for advice, help and great friends.  ;D :)
