Very good!  And do you have a website?

very interesting thanks for posting.  I have 2 maybe 3 spare engines.  2 m44 and one m42 so I'll be watching with interest!

It will require using the M42 cams but the cam gears/pulse wheels and the upper timing cover from the M44 head. Otherwise, in theory, it should work. I've done the mock-ups and it should be ok but I haven't started my engine up yet either.

Very good.  Is there any where I can read about your build?  Thanks.

Just put it on and be thankful you have such a thoughtful person in your life that she would go and do something for you like this.

Instead of looking at and thinking it's wrong every time how about look and and think she got me this!

Is there much of a job putting the M42 head on the m44 block?

Hello and a happy new year to all!  :)

I have a low miler e36 M44B19 that I am intent on saving as it has bags of potential.  It needs the head gasket done.  I've being doing up a list of parts that I'll need to get the job done.  Obviously I'll need to send the head to the machine shop to get it sorted before the gasket etc is replaced.

Luckily, I've never had a HG fail on me before nor have I had to deal with a machine shop before  :-[  So in light of this and as I intend to keep this car, what are the normal/recommended things I should get done in this instance?

Pressure tested/tested for cracks
Stem seals
New valves/current ones cleaned?
New valve springs
Resurfaced

What am I missing (parts or procedure)?  What would be classed as essential when getting this type of work done and what would be optional if the budget allowed?

Many Thanks!  8)

Engine + Driveline / m44 cam regrind help
« on: November 11, 2014, 10:00:40 AM »
I'm curious about cams.  I am aware about shcrick cams are good but they are cost prohibitive for me currently.  I have a basic understanding of cams, I understand their job and that lift/duration effects them in both positive and negative ways.

What I would ideally like to do is get some cams reground but I'm not sure of what specs I'd be asking a machine shop for?

So I have a the following:

I have my daily high miler e36 with an M42 with a nasty chain rattle.

I have another out of the car M44 engine and box.

I also have another E36 with an M44 and box (suspected head gasket) still in another car of mine that I am breaking for parts.

I have also recently bought another E36 M44 car with low miles.

The original intent was to replace the m42 engine in my daily with the M44 engine and box I bought, but then I bought another car to break for parts, this has an M44 with a suspected head gasket failure.  To further complicate the story a peach of a car, M44 also, with low miles came up needing some minor body work and a few other things so I bought that also to replace the daily.

So, I now have a few spare parts to say the least!

What cams, what engine?? Thanks

Engine + Driveline / Getrag 226 5 speed manual trans info required.

I have one of these as a spare.  I've started cleaning it up.  I've been looking online for some info related to this gear box but can only find what's documented on RealOem.

Does anyone have any information or links (like a teardown or rebuild perhaps?) they can provide?

Thanks  8)
