I did face the similar issues a short while ago and it turns out of be my throttle positioning sensor (I do not have OBC thus its impossible to check for fault codes).

I have also seen on youtube that a faulty O2 sensor will cause the same problem.

If you have check all your vaccum hoses etc and nothing works, you may want to take a look at these 2 places.

dude i don't wanna spend 100 bucks right away for an oxygen sensor unless i know for a fact that is the culprit.

i did however unplugged the oxygen sensor, and the same symptoms appeared. hopefully that rules it out.

already replaced the TPS and same symptoms.

i just have to look closely at the hoses now for a dam vaccum leak.

i have checked everything...

also, i noticed that my brake booster is not functioning as i got no power brakes.

any of you 318i/s owners have this problem before?

code pulls up 1215 air flow meter, got another one, put it in, still no go.
also tried another idle control valve, also no go.

cat converter tests ok.

noticed the spark plugs are burned black.

could it be faulty injectors?

check if the hose that is on the side of valve cover (the part on very top of the engine, the one with the brand ====BMW=== ;)) go straight to the throttle body to be 100% sure :)

(there should be a fitting under the throttle body)

yes the hose on top of the valve cover goes straight to the throttle body no crankcase valve underneath.

you don't have it... there is another diagram for 1993 318i, or for cars before 1/1994 :) That valve was fitted from 1/1994. In your car the hose from the valve cover go straight to a fitting in the throttle body, without valves in the middle.

thank you very much...now i know my rough idle is not due to the crankcase vent valve/pcv valve.
