General Topics / M40 or M42 on an E30 318 I

I brought an E30 318 I
It’s engine is corrupted
I’m going to replace it with a new one
What would you recommend usage of m42 or m40 engine?
The original engine of the car is m40
In case I decided to replace it with an m42
What are the parts required to be replaced along with the engine
The gearbox? the differential…?
Should they also be replaced?

For those who experienced snow/ice driving
What would you recommend for e30 to avoid losing traction on ice/snow
Snow socks or snow chains?
I already tried snow chains
The installation is very painful
I noticed that tire socks are very easy to install got this information based on some videos from the web
But can’t find answers on how will they perform on ice?
advice is appreciated

by chance i found the problem
the wire of the front left ABS sensor
few months ago sounds like the mechanic streched the wire while replacing the arm ball joint
i replaced the bad part and all sounds ok till now

i guess this needs multimeter to do the test
can the sensor be repaired? or should i consider buying a new one?

till now i removed and cleaned the sensors of the front wheels
the problem is still appearing
still have to clean the back ones
i cleaned the magnetic tooth
should I clean the capsule on which the tooth is installed?
i'm talking about the part on which the tooth sticks on

i own an e30 318is since 10 years
recently after driving few km and specially when the car shakes
the ABS light goes on
if i turn off the car and restart it the light goes off
after searching online i did find the ABS sensors tooth
are they the only thing to clean?
