General Topics / Temp Gauge Issues - I need Help!

I once accidentally swapped the temp plug with the oil pressure plug - gave me weird indications. Check that.

This is exactly what it was.  I somehow remembered that I had the oil pressure switch unplugged (no idea why) while the temp sensors were also unplugged.  Well, two black, single pole plugs, visually identical, you can see how this would happen.

This just proves the point that you should label everything when taking stuff apart!  I know I will from now on.

The E30 is back in business now!  Coolant is properly bled and operating at an acceptable temperature.  She is running great, even drove her to work (50 miles round trip) a couple days ago since it was halfway nice!

Thanks to everyone that has responded, I appreciate it.

General Topics / Temp Gauge Issues - I need Help!

Here's the issue, my temp gauge does not work at all when the car is started, it just stays in the "blue" and will not budge. However, when the ignition is turned to acc. the gauge will go all the way into the red and stay there until the car is started.

This all started after doing the mess under the intake mod. Before this, the gauge worked as it should. I am thinking that maybe I forgot to connect a ground, or something got bumped.

Before anyone asks, the plugs are not switched for the two temperature sensors on the head, I have made sure of it. I should also add that both of those sensors are brand new, thinking that they were the culprit.

I really have no idea where to go from here. I checked all of the wiring and it looks just fine, no exposed wires or potential locations for shorts.

If anyone has any ideas, throw them out there, I am sick of chasing this stupid problem! At this point, I am thinking about just buying an aftermarket gauge, but I would really like to avoid it.

Exterior / M Tech rear spoilers from e28s. Same bolt pattern?
« on: October 17, 2009, 10:36:07 AM »
I can tell you for sure that the E28 spoilers do not have the same bolt pattern as the e30, I had one on my previous e30.  How different they are, I do not know, since my car came with it already installed.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Engine + Driveline / New (Used) Differential install problems
« on: March 08, 2009, 10:52:35 PM »
Probably a stupid question, but you did remember to put fresh fluid in it right?

Also, it would be pretty difficult to have it aligned incorrectly if the 4 bolts attaching it to the subframe are all in correctly.  They pretty much determine the alignment of the diff.

I would go back and check the torque on every bolt again, and make sure everything is where it needs to be and nothing is binding.

I like everything except the film on the headlights, if they were the Hella smoked ones, it would look much better.

Do you have any pics of the exhaust system, or any information about it?  It sounds really good from the video on your website, probably one of the best sounding M42's I've heard.  I would like to get something similar made when I get the time for it.

Electrical / business cd radio

I'm working on installing a C33 radio from an E36, but it's the same idea.

You are going to need the wiring harness for the stereo from the E36 and wire it in to the E30 harness.  They also sell an adapter, but I got the harness for free from the junkyard, so that is the way I went.  Speaking of adapters, you are going to need an adapter for the antenna as well to go from the E30 plug to the E36 style.  I believe Metra and Scosche(sp?) sell them along with BMW (part no. 65 12  1 388 950, $23ish from the dealer).  Also, it will not sit flush in the dash unless you grind the lip down where the HU slides in.

It will also be a good idea to get a separate amp to run the speakers as the CD43 was designed to work with the stock, amplified systems in the E36.  Without running a separate amp, you won't be giving the speakers much power and the HU will most likely get very hot.

Check out r3vlimited, there are a whole bunch of threads regarding C33, C43, and CD43 into an E30.  Mine's all wired up (no amp for now, not worried since I have a spare C33) and I just need the antenna adapter and security code.
