Electrical / Stumped, not starting
« on: March 04, 2011, 09:46:15 AM »
oh right...forgot to mention when i do turn the key the lights are very low. Someone suggested that this was the starter and to hook up jumper cables from the charged batter to the starter and try to jump it that way as there maybe rust inside of it.  Not sure if thats a good idea or not.

Ok, I understand there has been a bunch of postings on this and I don't want to beat a dead horse or whatever that saying is. I have restored this car (1992 318 vert) about 85% complete. The OBC was tore up so I found one in the junk yard exactly the same to mine.  When I shut off the engine it still stays on so it drains my battery if I don't use the car frequently. So, I need to jump my battery if I don't use my car in 2 weeks. I guess my battery gave up. But its still holding a charge. My car just won't start. There's no clicking sound so I'm wondering if its the fuel pump or starter.  Either one has not been replaced. I have never replaced my alternator either. I have tested all fuses for everything.  A month before this happened my blower and radio stopped working. I really hope its not the ECU because that would be expensive. Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

General Topics / The mess under the intake

I'm doing the same project with removing the manifold and replacing the all the hoses ($200.00 dumped at the dealer). As well as the famous ICV issue. There was a large amount of calcium deposits on hoses.  Is that normal for the coolant hoses? As far as I know this car was very well taken care of.  Also, I wanted to know if you ran into any problems with putting the new hoses back together. That will probably kill me putting everything back. Any suggestions?

RE: The crazy characters are the result of a bad connection between the display and whatever the other end of that ribbon thingie connects to. I read on another forum that the way to fix this was to disassemble the unit and clean the ribbon connector and then put it back together. I cleaned it with soap and water and then high purity alcohol (not rubbing). It worked and has been good for about a year. Pay attention to the way it comes apart and goes back together. It comes apart real easy but the display has layers

So let me get this str8 you can clean the ribbon connector and it will work well again.  Will the bleeding displace be normal again> or am I just reading that wrong.
