Engine + Driveline / Building supercharged M42, looking for advice
« on: August 17, 2013, 06:12:37 AM »
Ive done a lot of research into sc the m42.  I was going to keep the motor stock internals to start.

The dasc uses an eaton m45 sc for their bolt on kit.  Now if you were to find a m60 or m90 sc you can use a bigger pully on the bigger sc so you can get the same psi as the m45 but at lower sc rpm.  This helps reduce heat soaked sc.

A good set up that ive seen was using the m90 sc from the ford thunderbird supercoupe.  The set up uses the m90 before the tb kinda like a turbo set up.  The m90 from the ford is shorter than the eaton m90 used by gm in the grand prix/bonnaville.

As for building the motor, i would up the cams, and leave the stock pistons.  For you up the cams and lower the compression.  I dont think you really need to bore the motor as the sc will add a lot of tq your way.  But thats my opinion.

Good luck and hope that helps!

Anyone look into SDS? I was thinking about using that set up and they have a m42 base map.  Its a full standalone

I got the midnight tuning xdf.  When i asked for some tips i very little in way of help.  Just a good luck.  Asked why the check engine light was on while using it.  Never got a reply. Ended up researching tuning tips and figuring out tunerpro.

Other than that the program works on my m42 with itbs.  Only issue i have is trying to hold rpm at 2k.  The engine bounces revs from 1500 to 2k when i hold steady throttle. Afr shows a fuel cut.  This is only when revving not driving under load.  But only happens when the car is warm.  At cold start i can hold the revs at 2k.  I tried adjusting idle fuel tables, low load fuel tables, tps adjustments.  I think its a glitch in the file.

I guess you get what you pay for.  But other than that everything else works fine.  Oh and you cant do data logging :(

Im not using the pay version of tunerpro rt either.  I think i might have that map as well but didnt know i can adjust injector size.

But yes wait untill you install a wideband before you start messing with fuel tables.

I had s52 injectors on my itb set up.  When i replaced my fuel pump i could not get the afr higher than 10:1 at high load and wot maps no matter how low i put the values.  So i ran my stock injectors.  I was tuning with tunerpro rt.  i dont know nor could find where i could tell the program that i was using higher cc injectors.  If you can figure that out then i think you can run bigger injectors on a stock motor and having a smaller duty cycle to keep from running too rich.

I know where you are talking about.  On my car its sealed.
The valve cover line goes to the hole closest to the afm.  And the icv connects to the bottom of the tb.  No clue what that sealed one was for.

Engine + Driveline / Mustang Injectors in an M42 engine

I heard that the stock injectors are good for 210hp.  I believe the MM m42 built motors use stock injectors with 205hp

Get the standalone first.. Get the stock motor running.  That will be your baseline tune to build from when you build the boost motor.

I meant cheap authentic dinan chips.

Most cheap chips on ebay are clones of dinan, markd, etc

Interior / Recovering cracked dash
« on: June 12, 2013, 02:42:48 PM »
Anyone do this?  Since my dash started to crack this spring by the passenger side i was thinking about getting it recovered.

Im sure the cracks would have to be filled before its recovered.  Im toying with either cf 1080 wrap, swede, or pleather.

Thoughts?

Engine + Driveline / oil loss, spewing out black debri from exhaust
« on: June 04, 2013, 08:31:11 AM »
so... can you explain why a it might be running too rich when the ecu should be controlling this factor? I think that would be super helpful

Could be a bad o2 sensor.   Showing lean to the ecu and the ecu compensates with more fuel.

Have you checked any gasket leaks?  Maybe the oil is leaking.  When driving the drops of oil could end up by the rear of the car from the negative air pressure.  Happened to my friends car.
