You planning on putting a similar amount towards the 30? I gather newish Impreza's are pretty expensive on the 'ol wallet all round? If that's the case then I can't wait to see what you come up with budd.

well, since I don't have any of my 30 yet (still torn apart in the garage), here's what I just sold..
417awhp..

I know it isn't an E30, but it's a nice contribution, I think ;)

Smoooooth budd. Nice lines, no spoiler :) - shoulda kept the engine and put it in the 30, ha ha. Not a big fan of Scoobies as they are everywhere in the Uk, and the 'chavs' new choice of weapon, but I must say, that is rather nice.

My contribution - a few days after she was purchased. Liked the moody weather at the time, and no, i'm no good at photography!

BTW can someone on here explain something to me if possible. I've tried several times and several different methods to remove the digits from my number plate. I did it in Photobuckets editor, in Photoshop and MS Paint, but whenever I place the link to the image on this thread, it puts the digits back! Now this is freaking me out somewhat! Any explanations?

Think i must have the best of both worlds then :) 318i (originally), but now with a M42. Means I have no sunroof anyway (lighter shell), no AC (ideal place to mount and run the 'charger), leather interior and Mtech1 steering wheel, electric windows and central locking. My battery IS mounted in the front unfortunately so will have to be relocated to the boot once the 'charger conversion gets underway, but that's a minor detail. Oh, and a full stainless Fritz's exhaust sytem so no CAT..... :)

Yea, am a newbie on there too, and I have actually found that link this morning, and am now the proud owner of a stainless exhaust system, ha ha. Thanks anyway though mate, good lookin' out.

Just one thing that I have unfortunately discovered this evening (and really should have thought about it first), you'll need the M42 exhaust as the M40 will DEFINITELY not fit. I nearly ended up with a side exit! ha ha. Still, you got the whole car so not a problem. I got a fairly good quote on an off the shelf item @ £111 inc vat so it will have to do for now as i'm having trouble finding a second hand item on the "bay" or other forums.

Shame you're not closer budd, i'd have come and given you a hand ;)

OOOooooo, nasty, big bits of pipe ay. I'd have rang the company for compo, ha ha. Err, as far as  know, the M40 mounts SHOULD be ok to use, but you'll have to do away with the dampers or modify the M42 brackets from the engine. Basically because there's no holes or anything for them to attach to. You should still be able to fit the 40 rubber bits, but how solid or functional they'd be without the dampers, I have no idea. Fitting the M30 items always save you the extra ££££'s though as the dampers and mounts for the 40 can be pretty expensive!

Ahhh, get stuck in, it's a LOT easier than ya think :)

M42 definitely seems the way to go. I've just started (and almost finished) mine as the old M40 (with over 157k on the clock) developed a very nasty knocking, that for some strange reason can not be found. I paid a really good price for my M42, g'box, prop, ecu and loom, rad, downpipes and a few other bits and got cracking. In 2 days i'm nearly done, and I have NO mechanical experience and a tiny garage!

Awkward bits were: Guibo split on the old prop and made getting it off a nightmare (it's quite tight in there, OOoooerr!) and you'll need to take the IS coilpack bracket off the old car VERY carefully as they bend easily and if you don't want to fab a new one.

That was basically it. I replaced my engine mounts with M30 items (from Euro Car Parts at £20 each inc vat) as the M40 uses dampers aswell and the M42 mounts don't cater for these. You'll have a bit more noise in the cabin as the engine has less damping qualities, but I was assured that they hold the lump better and actually improve the driveabilty. And apart from fixing the mess that the horse riding, lasso wielding numpties left under the dash when they fitted the alarm system and immobilizer, that's me done. Fluids and that to do tomorrow, ECU to chip, and exhaust to fit back on, and that's it.

Have pics if anyone wants to see, and i'll keep you all posted.

Again, if ya need help, i'll do my best.

I had to do my timming chain and was looking for some "encouragement". Wow!!!!! After looking for an hour or so, I ended up on the forum page. Holy crap !!!. Four and a half hours later, I have more info about my car than i thought existed.  You guys are gods. I re-did my timming chain in a day! The links and pics were a god send, the simple, straight forward instruction made it easy to follow, and the confidence you gave me was awsome. I can,t thank you all enough. I am now a PROUD member who can,t wait to start doing all the cool stuff I've read about to My Baby. I've got a million questions ( which I'll look in the forums for answers first!) so please bare with me.
Again, thanks for your help, and who's ever idea this site was, YOU ROCK !!!

Am with you on that Big Red. Similar circumstances led me here, after a search on good 'ol Google for some answers.

My 8v M40 has decided to give up the ghost, and i've been lucky enough to find an 87,000mile M42 with ALL ancillaries to do a conversion, even better that it's out of an E30 already. I have a LOT of research to undergo, and I have no idea what i'm doing (mechanical wise) so it's a rather sharp learning curve. Oh well, am never one to give up easily and as i'm already TOTALLY devoted to my E30 so I thought it a shame to get rid of it.

Here's to another top forum and some happy times.
